Marine committee upon the bill which
would forbid the sale of liquor on
American passenger liners.

introduced by Representative Hill to
repeal the prohibition enforcement

ferring prohibition enforcement from
the treasury department to the de
partment' of justice. '
Interest is particularly lively with
regard to the efforts of Representa
tive Volstead whoso lid clamping act
made his name a household word to
put the ban on medicinal beer. The
ruling of A. Mitchell Palmer, former
attorney general, that doctors could
prescribe beer for medicinal purposes,
aroused the hopes of the thirsty,
v Whether these hopes were justified
will bo decided when hearings on the
subject begin Thursday.
Experts of three varieties medical,
beer and prohibition, are expected to
give testimony on the beneficial or
destructive results which might ac
company the administering of five
percent medicine to the sick. With a
dry majority in the house, however,
that body is expected to voto thumbs
