For instance, the Sentinel figures out
that the chances are 30,000,000 to
one that the baby boy will not be-
come president or vice-president of
the United States. This is supposed

chances for becoming president are a
good deal better than those of a boy
from Rhode Island or Delaware. It
is estimated that the chances arc

The annual report of the superin
tendent of the dead letter office
shows that people .have not become
less careless in using the mails as a
means of forwarding valuables and
letters. During the last year the
dead letter office received nearly
0,000,000 unclaimed letters alone.
Of these 87,8."2 were dropped into
the office without any address at all.
The number of letters reaching the
dead letter office which contained
money was 47,000 and the amount

of money enclosed aggregated $42.
854.72, while 17o,000 letters re
ceived at the dead letter office con
tained stamps, 39,000 letters con
taining drafts, notes and other valu
able papers, aggregating a face value
of $1,178,970, were likewise sent to
the dead letter office. The grand
total of letters, parcels, etc., opened
at the dead letter office, because of
no other means of determining for
whom they were destined or by whom
they were sent, was 7,00:3,751,
At the end of his administration
President Roosevelt will have one of
two impossibles to face. Either it j
