HallounMt l.inlel Safely.
San Francisco, Nov. 3 The nine oc
cupants of the car of the balloon which
escaped from this city yesterday after
noon returned safely today. The balloon
lauded near Pescadero, fifty miles from
this city and but a short distance from
the ocean. T4k balloon was in the air
nearly two hours, and at one time was
out at sea, but was blown back over the
laud.
Those-w ho made the involuntary trip
were: Ed P. Dudley, tiie aeronaut ; A.
L. Dodge, Ed Foster, Jr., Walter Leon,
C. P. Vildecoq, J. A. Leonard, M. L.
Howarth, John A. M. Swift and Mrs. J.
P. Gunsaulus.
When the balloon broke its bonds it
sailed away in a southerly direction.
South of Redwood City it struck another
air current which took it towards the
ocean over the summit of the Coast
Range. Nine miies from Lahonda and
about six miles from Pfscadero lies
Beatty Thompson's place. Thompson
war up and out when the balloon came
along by Wurr's mill, the grappling
hooks slipping through tire trees and
raking along brushy pitches of ground.
By this time much of ttic gas had been
let our of the balloon and the power was
weak. The rope that had snapped and
caused the captive to run away was
sweeping along the ground, and when it
came vritlnn Xhompson's reach he
grasped it and bore down with all his
weight. This stopped the flight. Soon
the balloon was brought to the ground,
and the overjoyed passengers and the
aerona.it alighted and tok supper with
Tuorupson.
Attractive TV omen
All women sensibly desire to be at
tractive. Beauty is the stamp of health
because it is the outward manifestation
of inner purity. A healthy woman is
always attractive, bright and happy.
When every drop of blood in the veins is
pure a beauteous flush is on the cheek.
But when the blood is impure, morose
uess, bad temper and a sallow complex
ion tells the tale of sickness all to plain
ly. And women today know there is no
beauty without health. Wine of Cardui
crowns women with beauty and attrac
tiveness by making strong and healthy
those organs which make her a woman.
Try Wine of Cardui, and in a month
vour friends will hardly knew you.
Not a Financial Success.
"Buffalo, Nov. 3 The Pan-American
exposition ended laet night at 12 o'clock.
The expo9iticn has not been a financial
success, but it is believed the beneflte
derived from it wili be of great va'ue to
the commercial interests of the country.
Its primary Object was to advance
friendly relations and commercial inter
course between ihe United States and
other countries o: the two Americas. In
this respect it has been a decided success.

Of the product of this well-known brewery the United States Health
Reports for June 28, 1900, says: "A more supeiior brew never entered
the labratory of the United States Health reports. It is absolutely devoid
of the slightest trace of adulteration, but on the other hand is composed of
the best of malt and choicest of hops. Its tonic qualities are of the high
est and it can be used with the greatest benefit and satisfaction by old and
young. Its use can conscientiously be prescribed by the physicians with
the cersainty that a better, purer or more wholesome beverage could not
possibly be found."
