Foreign Grain Crop.
London, July 31. There is great di
versify of opinion union produce dealers
here respecting the probable supplies of
' wheat from Europe and America. The
I German crop is known to be unusually
(small, and consequently the proposed
I increase of duties upon imported grain
will bear heavily against the industrial
class. The French crop is reported to
be lighter than last year's. Russian
statistics are not trustworthy. American
and Canadian crops will determine the
course of prices throughout Europe as
satisfactory estimaies are received.

Don't be satisfied with temporary re
lief from indigestion. Kodol Dyspepsia
Cure permanently and completely re
moves this complaint. It relieves per
manently because it allows the tired
stomach perfect rest. Dieting won't
rest the stomach. Nature receives sup
plies from the food we eat. The sensible
way to help the stomach is to use Kodol
Dvspepsia Cure, which digests what you
eat and can't help but do you good.

BRAVE AND
COMPETENT
Morcu Savs Schley Was Both in the
Battle Off Santiago Opines That
the Charges of Cowardice Made
Against the Officer Came From
Cowards.
New Yokk, July 31. The Madrid
representative of the Journal and Ad
vertiser has obtained an interview from
Captain Diaz Moreu, who commanded
the Cristobal Colon du-ing the naval
conflict off Santiago. Says Captain
Moreu in reference to the movements of
Admiral Schley :
"All the American officers, without
exception, did their duty in the naval
battle off Santiago. It is abBurd and un
patriotic to make any exception in the
case of Admiral Schley. The Brooklyn
was in the thickest of the fight through
out. She was at the mouth of the
harbor when we tried to pass out, and
engaged us in a terrific fire, doing fright
ful damage in the end. In the pursuit
of the Colon we surrendered to the
Brooklyn forty-five miles west of
Santiago. The Brooklyn landed a shell
just ahead of my ship, and, with the
Oregon helping her, there was nothing
left for me to do but run ashore.
"I should say that Schley was not only
brave, but very competent, as is Sampson ,
whom I know personally. I don't know
Schley. Schley directed that our officers
retain their personal effects. A coward
is never generous. The suggestion of
cowardice probably comes from cowards.
"I have read in El Mundo Naval that
this attack upon an honorable naval
officer has a low political basis. The
navy should be left outside of politics."

31. Dr. Rangel Gardirae, at the bead of
5000 men, has revolted against President
Castro, of Venezuela. The insurgents
are near Santonia de Tacheria, on the
Colombian frontier. The Venezuelan
government has sent 10,000 troops to the
scene of the uprising. Other outbreaks
are expected. The whole country is
ready to rise against President Castro.
Constitutional guarantees have been
suspended, and complications with
Colombia are feared.
Washington, July 31. The state de
partment today received a telegram from
the American legation at Caracas stating
that martial law bas been declared in
Venezuela by the president of the
country, in consequence of the invasion
of a revolutionary force from Colombia.

riajeil n Hanging.
Chkiaqo, July 81. A special to the
Tribune from Little Hock, Ark., says:
! Ten thousand persons saw Jim Anderson,
a negro, hanged here last Friday. There
were fifty fakers doing business with ex
i hibitions which bordered on thesideshow
variety. Among the spectators was
1 young LetDi jine Jayne, a son of Porter
1 Jayne, a carpenter. After the execution
the lad inspected the scaffold, and today
' completed a miniature scaffold. He in
i vited his plavmates to take the role of
I the condemned man. Failing in this,
' he sought to take the place of the execn
: tioner as well as the person condemned.
; He adjusted the noose and stepped cn
! the trap. His neck was not broken,
but he is unconscious, and doctors give
no hope for recovery.
For this and the scenes enactei', Gov
ernor Davis has made known his inten
tion to recommend the immediate repeal
of the act which permits the public to
witness hangings.
