Mrs. A. A. Jnyne arrived hero on the
noon train from Hood River.
Crfarles McAHeter, the Crov eheop
king, is registered Bt the Umatilla
House.
Senntnr J. N. Williamson was a pas
eenger on the noon train for Prineville,
whence he carried a grip-sack contain
in ir 32 pounds of coin silver, worth $500,
for the Prineville National bank.
P. Rpiley, n brother of Thomas Reiley
who was ninrdered at Trout Creek last
Thursday, arrived yesterdav from San
Francisco to see after his brother's in
terment, and left today for Trout Creek
to look alter the deceased's interests at
that place.
Mrs. ntmtrtler's Afternoon.
Mature did no more toward giving us
a charming day yeaterday than did Mrs.
Hosteller for her forty-five guests who
assembled in response to her invitation.
The pretty parlors were enhanced in
their beauty by au abundance of palme
and cut flowers.
After an honr spent In endeavoring to
give their opponents all the hearts pos
sible, the guests enjoyed a repast such
as only an experienced housekeeper
could produce.
Mrs. V. H. Wilson and Mrs. Geisen
dorffer tied for the head prize, which
finally went to the latter; while Mrs.
Crosbv, Mrs. Rlakeley and Mrs. Kuck
all proved they were heart winners by
claiming the consolation prize, which
Mrs. Blakeley finally carried home.
As the ladies went to their homes the
universal verdict was that a more de
lightful afternoon or a more charming
hostess would be hard to And.
Mrs. Hostetler was assisted by Miss
Dawson and little Jessie Hostetler and
Aileen Kelly.

Beginning at S :15 o'clock.
A moat bappy evening was enjoyed J
by trie members of the Iwentietb Cen
tury Whist Club anil e number of other
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Houghton yes
terday evening.
Seven tables were arranged and a very
lively two hours spent at the ever enter
taining frame of whist.
Mr?. Hostetler and Mrs. To'.mie car
ried awuy the prizes, which were
especially appropriate.
The discussion of a very fine, well
served lunch consumed an hour, when
cards were handed around for a "Menu"
Kline, which proved very interesting
and jolly. Mr. Toltnie and Mr. Crosby
proved themselves equal to the occasion,
and when cutting was reeorted to Mr
Crosby proved tbo lucky man.
The rooms were beautiful, cut flowers
and lighted candles being in evidence,
and especially beautiful and very much
admired was the large palm which Mrs.
Houghton has grown from infancy.
Present were, besides host and hostess,
Miss Lord, Mesdatnes Sheldou and Mc
Coy, Messrs. Nicholas Sinnott and Ed
Hostetler, Messrs. and Mesdames Lord,
Alfred Bennett, J. C. Hostetler, A.
