From the Hooil Klvar Olacler. jKX V. A. Goodwin, of Condon, ia visiting Tlios. Chapnnn. Mr. Goodwin is n painter hy trade and ia also a preicher of the church of Latter Day Saints. Ho lias arranged with B. M. Neal for a re ligious discussion to commence in A. 0. U. W. hall next Monday evening. The citi.itis of Underwood, Wash., are to be congratulated upon the law abiding spirit shown when the confessed murderer, Jim Green, was captured. Considering the fact that Green was cordially hated and feared by hia neigh bors, and his victim correspondingly loved anil respected, lynching might have resulted. Rev. Samuel Green, of Seattle Wash., who ia superintendent of Sunday school work in Washington, effected the organ ization of Bethel Congregational church at White Salmon on Sunday, the 17th inst. The sum of $300 will be secured from the Congregational church build ing society, which will be used to re model and complete the building, when an effort will be made to secure a minis ter for White Salmon, Lyle and adja cent points. It is said that there were some very badly scared citizens of Underwood after it was learned that Jim Green had killed 5enj.min. One young man turned grey in a night. Another, a young man who had loaned Green a gun, fearing arrest as an accomplice, swallowed a big doe of carbolic acid in a quart of cider with suicidal intent. The cider acted as an antidote and as an emetic, and the youth will live to get scared another day. The only person iieard of showing any presence of mind during the excite ment of the affair was Mrs. Brown, who, after the fatal shot was fired, blew out the lamp so that the assassin could not eee into the room to shoot again. How to Cure Croup. Mr. R. Gray, who lives near Amenia, Duchess county, N. V., eays: "Chamber lain's Cough Remedy is the best medi cine I have ever used. It is a fine children's remedy for croup and never fails to cure." When given as soon as the child becomes hoarse, or even after the croupy cough has developed, it will prevent the attack.
