Council Meeting.
The resnlar monthly meeting of the
city council was held laet night at the
council chambers. Ail the members
were present except the mayor, in whose
absence Councilman Gunning presided.
A petition was presented by Al Bet
tincen, agent, asking that he be paid
i-200 damages on pecount of his building
having 'been quarantined by the city
when a caee of smallpox broke out in
the building. The matter was referred
to a select cDtnmittee consisting of Couu
oilmen Shackelford, Keller and Wake
field. The judiciary committee reported that
the case of Paul Kruger against Dalles
City ior damages for injuries received
throauh an alleged defective tidewnlk
bad been continued till the May term
of circuit court.
E. 0. McCoy, representing a company
that proposes to incorporate the present
Electric Light Company and the Wasco
Warehouse Company, including the new
flouring mill, under one management,
and bring their power from Hood river,
appeared before the council and atked
that the company which he represented
begmnted the privilege of submitting
an offer for lighting the streets of the
city before a contract had been closed
with any other company. Further ac
tion on the matter of lighting the street
was deferred and the recorder was in
structed meanwhile to draw up speci
fications for a light evetom upon which
intending outractore may base their
bide.

ferred to the special committee appointed
to consider the Bettincen claim.

RABBIT AND COYOTE DRIVE-
There will be a rabbit and coyote drive
at Blalocks island March 5th. The O.
Pv. & N. Co. will sell tickets Dalles to
Coyote and return for .3.30, tickets good
going on train No. G, leaving Dalles at
12:45 a. m. March 5th, and returning
will leave Blalock Spur at 12:40 a.m.
March Gth and March 7th, arriving at
Dalles at 4 :45 a. m.
Passengers will be taken to Blalocks
Spur, where train will arrive at 3:40 a.
m., and will be met by parties with lan
terns, who will take charge of visitors.
There will be a rabbit drive on Blalocks
Island March otb, ending with a barbe
cue, Everything free to visitors, and
another drive March Gth on the main
land near the island.
Dr. Blalock exptcte to get a number
of people together at this time and in
terest them in the development of the
sage brush country in this vicinity.
