Anvhnw. catch cold very often, but the minute I begin tosneeze I reach up on the shelf and take a dose of Acker's Eng lish IJpnipilv. I tell vou it is wonderful how quickly it stops a cough or cold. 1 have used it myself, and in my fam-, ily for a number of years. It works like a charm. I suppose some of the folks would have run into consumption before this if I had neglected to keep a bottle ready nil tho time for immediate use. I wouldn't think of using anything else for throat and lung troubles. I know what Acker's Remedy actually does, so what sense is there In ex perimenting? Certainty is better than chance." John Gates, assist ant jtnitnr at the etate house, was arrested on a charge of larceny by bailee of $1500, and, when apprehended, $1300 in paper money wa found upon hie perBon. Yesterday forenoon Chief of Police Coates received a message from Chief or Police Gibson, of Salem, stating that he had a warrant for the arrest of John Gates, of Wood burn, on a charge of larceny by bailee of $1500, and asking liim to arrest Gates if he should be found on the train. Gates was on the south-hound train arriving at uoon, and be was placed under arrest by Chief Coatee and Officer McCiain. The con ductor stated that he got on the train at Marion and tendered a $100 bill in pay ment of liiB fare. He was searched and thirteen new $100 gold notes were found upon his pereou enclosed in n ley il envelope. The money was taken care of by the officers and Gates was locked up in jail. Gates has been serving as as -Blatant janitor during the session of the legislature. Chief of Police Gibson, Attorney Mc Mahon and H. L. Gill, of Woodburn, arrived from SaIihii on the 7 o'clock tram. Chief GiliAon stated to a Herald reporter that there seemed to be a mystery of some kind about the case. lie said that at first ilr. Poorinan, the "VVoodburu banker, told him that $1500 had been paid to Gates by mistake and that he had run away with it, and that lie would swear to a warrant for his arrest; but afterwards H. L. Gill, of 'Woiidtiurn, swore to the warrant. He eaid Mr. Poorman told him to arrest 'the man, get the money from him and then let him skip out. AiVr the Salem men arrived last night .mid found tiiat the ofliuers had $1300 of the motiHy, tiioy tried to induce Chief Uih-on to return the money and allow OJalrs to go, bin the Salem officer de clared that he had a warrant for Gates and had no authority to let him go, and that he would take him to Salem to answer to the charge. Gates declined to talk about the case, and those who were instrumental in his arrest also declined to say whose money it was that was Htolen or to relate the circauirtnnces, Albany Herald.
