He lately bus been especially intere-ted

hU friends believe despondency was the
cause of tiie eiiicide. The end (if bin life
was deliberate. He telegraphed friends
at Writer, this morning, that lie would

read :
"J. II. Coakley, Weiser. 1 will com

Yours gratefully, W. Thos. Hart."
Mr. Hart wan especially well known

the greatest silver producers of the West.
He was born in Georgia. Little is know '

Bitiiur. Vwi,, Or., Feb. Hi. Consider
ablu damage was done to the O. It. it N.
Co. 'a bridge and to the property of the
Bridal Veil Lumbering Company and
the Oregon I'ulp & Paper Company, at
this place, last night, by a drilt and
slides forming a dam in the Bridal Veil
Creek about three miles from ttiia point,
and at an elevation of 2000 feet. The
creek is a largo mountain stream, even
in low water, and the heavy rains and
melting enow for the past two days have
made it more than a torrent. The
Brida! Veil Lumbering Company had
the gates to uil its dams wide open early
in tho afternoon, so that the duuiB would
not break, but the drift formed a dam
just above tho sawmill late in the even
ing and broke at 11:.'(0 p, in., taking
everything before it. Great trees, logs,
timbers and rocks came tearing down
over Bridal Veil Falls, taking out several
sections of the Bridal Veil Lumbering
Company's lumber flume and coming up
against the paper mill with such force
that it tore away their 'stack platform
and scattered bales of rags and papers
and barrels of tar all along the banks of
tho creek to tho river. The railroad
bridge over tho creek got the full force
of the Hood and drift, and all the bents
were washed out of the three-track
bridge, The patwmicr trains are being
tranuforred today with very little delay,
and the bridgo will be repaired in a few
hours,
Jt is hard to tell at present the extent
of the damage done to the lumber com
pany's and the paper company's prop
erty, hut the large waterwheel that runs
the paper mill was taken out, and has
