Washington, D. U., Jan. 22. The
house todav adopted a resolution ex
pressing profound regret and sympathy
with the English people, owing to the
death of Queen Victoria. The president
was requested to express tiie sentiment
to Great Britain, and, as a further mark
of respect, the house adjourned. The
action of tha house was particularly ex
pressive, in that tiie resolution was
adopted without dissent. It followed
precedents and was) in almost identically
the same language of the resolutions
adopted upon the occasion of the death
of the president of the French republic
and the czar.
The announcement of the death of
Queen Victoria, conveyed unofficially to
the senate, was recognized by that body
in the adoption of an appropriate reso
lution which was ordered to be en
grossed and forwarded to the prime
minister of Great Britain. During the
fitting ot the senate in open session the
Cjislative, executive and judicial appro-
! ration bill was reported, so far as the
, L.'minittec amendments were concerned.
jit is now subject to amendment by in-
: dividual senators. Little other bueinees
