Result of Hawaiian Election a Bin Sur
prise Wilcox Goes to Congress
Represents Ignorant Natives anil
the Dusky Kx-CJuecn.
HoNoi.ui.tr, Nov. 11. (Vin Sun Fran
cisco, Nov. ID ) Robert V. Wilcox, the
independent roynliat candidate, Iiiih been
elected Hawaiian delegate lu emigreac,
I iy ik Hiiiull majority, over Samuel Parker,
tlid republican candidate. 1 1 i h atroiig
vote among tin; nnti vt; in tho outside
dlHtrietH carried tliu tiny iigniiiat the
whites iiii (t tliu Intelligent native voters
of tin; city.
News of tliu result of tins election, which
was brought to Honolulu thin morning
by steamers carrying rctui mh from the
other islauilH, produced much depression
among all tho whites, an Wilcox whi
strongly opposed by republicans, and
democrats alike. Hie campaign wan an
anti-white canvass, with prnmisesmi 'lie
part of Homo of his campaign workers
thai If lie wont elected Queon Liliuoknl
ani would ho replaced on the thrum:.
Tim roault of the vote shows tho native
bitterness over annexation to bo still
alive.
Tho republicans curried Honolulu and
the island of O.ihu for Hon. .Samuel Par
ker by -MO plurality, the democratic can
didate, Prince David Kuwuiianakou, re
ceiving only nbout one-third aa many
voten aa Parker. Today it is reported
that ho waa "knifed" by ox-Queen Lib
iiakaiianl, who is said to have secretly
thrown lior interest to Wilcox. There is
iiiuun bitterness against her among the
democrats, who hoped that, even if they
did not elect their man, they would at
least eo divide tho native vote that Wil
cox would bo behind Parker.
Tin: independent native party hnve
carried the Iiouho of representatives u u
largo majority. They will have I I ol
their men in tliu bonne, with nine repub
licans, and h'ix men who Jaro independ
ent and democratic. In the senate there
will he seven ropuhlicius, eight indo
tiendentf and one democrat. With the
independents in control, a lively session
in expected and they are auaiiiHt Hit) rul
ing regime, antl will grvo Governor Dole
plenty of opportunities fur vetoes.
It is likely ns a ri'Hiilt of the election
that e-ingress will be naked to eatabliab
Home limitations on the privilege?. The
nutivea have won upon a race division,
and now many of the whites want u
property qualification for voters. It is
argued that in voting upon u pimple
color line many of the natives have shown
themselves unfit for universal HiiftrHge.
Thu returiiB which are not quite com
plete chow Wilcox (i!) votes ahead. The
precincts to be lieard from are expected
to slightly inereaH thia plurality. Wil
cox carried away every i-dand hut Oahu,
wlieie Honolulu is, w ith ita lurgo white
population and with 11 majority of the
more educated nativea. The island of
Kauai gave more votea to Wilcox than
to Parker and David combined.
The moat cucourging feature to the
white of both partii-H Ib in the fact that
the Wilcox mi'jority is ho small, which
aliows that very many of the natives
were divided upon oilier than nice lines
If all the natives bad cast Wilcox votes
his majority on each of the islands would
have been much lamer than it is. Prob
ably a third of the native population ia
aligned witli the American parties, and
it in thought I h it the future will rapidly
increase the proportion.
Tliu present prospect ia that tho con
gressman eiect will be utterly ignored by
tlie commercial and other interestflof the
inlands. It iB said that Parker will go to
Washington in any event and that
though lie will have uo official title he
will look after Hawaiian interests there,

A startling incident, of which Mr.
.John Oliver of Philadelphia, was the
subject, Ih narrated by him as follows:
"I was in a most dreadful condition. My
akin was almost yellow, eyes sunken,
tongue coated, pain continually in back
and sides, no appetite gradually grow
ing weaker day by day. Three physi
cians had given nie up. Fortunntoly, a
triend advised 'Electric Hitters' ; and to
my great joy and surprise, thu first
bottle made a decided improvement. I
continued their use (or three weeks, and
am now a well man. I know they saved
my life, and robbed the grave of another
victim." No one should fail to try them.

of Fort Worth, Tex., is in the city for the
purpose of forming a cattle combine, and
it has been reported that John D. Rock
efeller is to be interested in the company.
When Mr. Loving was Bean at the
Waldorf-Astoria, he said that the com
pany which he was endeavoring to form
was not a truet in any sense of the word,
and that Mr. Rockefeller so far aa he
knew was not to be interested in the
company in any way. He said that he
was in New York last spring on the same
miesion which brings him here this time,
and that lie had expected to form the
company at that time.
Mr. Loving said that the company
would not attempt to control prices at
all, but that it was the Intention of those
who are promoting the company to pur
chase about 3,500,000 acres of land be
tween Texas and New Mexico for the
purpose of going into the cattle-raising
business on a large ecale. It was his in
tention ut first to form a company with
a capital of $50,000,000, but he found
that it would not be practicable, and he
has now decided that the new company
will be capitalized at about $12,000,000.
Mr. Loyiug saya that he waa not in
Cleveland two days ago, and that he lias
not called on Mr. Rockefeller, and that
there is no one else interested iu the
company. Who are to be the stockhold
ers Mr. Loving declined to say, but he
wished it distinctly understood that the
new company has uo connection what
ever with the leather trust, as reported,
"For three days and nights I suffered
