All who use Ctiamberlaii, Pain Balm
for rheumatism are delighted with the
quick relief from pain which it affords.
When speaking of this Mr. D. N. Sinks,
of Troy, Ohio, says: "Some time ago I
had a eeve attack of rheumatism in my
arm and ehoulder. I tried numerous
remedies, but got no relief until I was
recommended by Messrs. Geo. F. Par
sons & Co., druggists of this place, to
try Chamberlain's Pain Balm. They
rerommenned it so highly that I bought
a bottle. J was noon relieved of all pain.
I have since recommended Hub lini
ment to many of my friends, who agree
with me that it is the best remedy for
muscular rheumatism in the market."

Krnger Admits the Situation
Grave and Asks the Burghers
They Wish.
Very
What
Washington, D. C, May 28. While
Lord Roberts' 30,000 infantry, 20,000
horses and 150 guns are moving on
Johannesburg and Pretoria, through a
parched and deserted country, the situa
tion at the Transvaal capital, as it was
last Friday, is thus described by an
observer, who Bent his message by
private hand to Lourecco Marques yes
terday :
"The situation, both from a military
and political point of view, has become
very critical. President Kruger yester
day admitted for the first time that
matters are very grave. The Boer de
termination is to trust everything to a
last Bland on the GatBrand mountain, to
the north of Potschefostroom, where
3000 Kaffirs are diL-cine trenches. To
that point every available man and gun
has been Bent.
"The whole ot the western border of
the Transvaal from end to end ia de-
fensoless, and 'General Baden Powell
can march in when be likes. Lord
Roberts, on the other hand, will en
counter the- greatest resistance.. The
Boer endeavor is to lure the Britieh into
appearing to threaten Johannesburg
with attack, an excuse thus being given
them for the destruction of property.
The TranBvaal government will not dare
destroy the mines and property without
an excuse. Much dynamite ban been
sent down the line, and 100,000 cases
lie ready at Zuurfontein, near Johannes
burg.
"General Louis Botha and General
Lucas Meier have pleaded for the pre
servation of property. Both are lame
lauded proprietors and fear confiscation,
but they have not received satisfactory
replies from President Kruger.
"Meanwhile, many French and Ger
man adventurers have come forward with
schemes and inventions for blowing up
the British troops, some of these havimr
received a tacit permission to experi
ment. One German invention is for the
use on a railway, where it lies perfectly
concealed until the weight of a passing
train explodes the charge.
"General Lucas Meier says surrender
would be at once proponed by the Boers,
but that everybody fears the ignominy
of being the one to make the proposition.
He declares that he is assured that his
men will not stand. Piesldent Steyn
and Mr. Reilz, the Transvaal state sec
retary, are strongly oppused to peace,
but Mr. Kruger is not bo much against
it."
President Kruger's proclamation to
the burghees asking their vote for or
against continuing the war is under
stood to say they can quit now with the
prospect of retaining their farms or con
tinue to the bitter end. Rumors are
current in Lord Roberts' army that the
Boers intend to surrender.

Washita, I. T. He writes:
"Four bottles of Electric Bitters has
cured Mrs. Brewerof Ecrofula, which had
caused her great suffering for years.
Terrible sores would break out on her
head and face, and the best doctors
could give no help; but her cure is com
plete and her health is excellent." This
shows what thousands have proved,
that Electric Bitters is the best blood
purifier known. It's the supreme
remedy for eczema, tetter, salt rheum,
ulcers,' boils and running sores. It
stimulates liver, kidneys and bowels,
exDels poisons, helps digestion and

Chicago, May 20 The question of
admission of members of secret societies
to membership in the United Presby

discussion which has marked the pres
ent assembly. The question camu up in
the report of the committee to wlilch
was referred at the last assembly the
revision of the 15th article of testimony,
which relates to secret societes. While
the report recommended that the article
which declares the oppobituui of the
church to secret societies should stand,
it recommends that an overture should
be made to the presbyteries of the
cnurch asking their opinion as to
whether the covenant of membership
shonld be so changed as to allow mem
bers ot secret societies to liecome church
members If they should consent to re

to the attitude of the church toward
their societies. This proposal caused
heated dircussion for and against it.
