The following news item in yestsrday's Oregouian indit-atea that the big paper's position on the primary question is re ceiving considerable attention in Mult nomah county. It says: About twenty-five of the leading Re public.ms of the ninth ward met last night at the office of Bucbtel & Kerns, in the Burkliurd bnildinu', Fast Burn tide etreet, and organized a now Repub lican club for the coming campaign. 3en. Owen Summers was chosen presi dent; U. A. Moore, Vice-president; E. 2f. Wheeler, secretary ; and H. H. New hall, treasurer. The club then adopted as its platform and principles tho fol lowing: "First To harmonize and unite the 'hcriftoloru contending factions of the uarty in the pursuit of a common pur- ' - ... . "Second To demand fair primary elections for delegates to the count v con" ventlun, tiie appointment of none but 'fair and impartial judges and clerks for 'the conducting of said primaries, and to eee that the votes cast at such election -ani fairly counted. "Third -To select responsible and representative men as delegates to the county convention, who shall not bo pledged to vote in said convention for she choice of any ritiir, faction or person, fmt each delegate shall be free and tin trammeled to support for ofllce only uch persons as in his judgement shall best subserve the public welfare; and we oppose tho present system of political tuanagerB promising theoflices to persons in advance and attempting to secure delegates to confirm their actions. "Fourth To advocate and nromote Itepublican principles as promulgated by the last national convention, and the election of Republicans to ollice in natioua', state and local aflairs." Tho following resolution was unani mously adopted : "Resolved, 'That we heartily endorse the stand taken by The Oregonian for a fair primary election and purer politics in this county, and promise to use every legitimate means to aid and assist in obtaining such a result." A committee Has then appointed to weenre quarters for tho club, All Re publicans are invited to participate with the organization, as no factional lines redrawn and the club will not have any candidates for any office. The name of the new organization is "The Ninth Ward Sound Money and Expansion "Club." The noxpneetlng will be held one week from this evening, Friday, February 2nd. Regarding the above organization, the Oregonian editorially commeuts as fol lows : The purposes of a Republican club' meeting held last night in tho Ninth Ward, ae set fortli in tho proceedings printed today, are commondable. Let the llopublican party go on with Its biMinete upon this bases, and there will bo no ground of complaint. Tho Ore Bonian believes there s no reason to fear that tho nrraiiuementfl for the primaries ami conventions will bo other than i equitable and fair. By this it means I that the committee will make such ar rangements and establish such regula tions as will assure canal rights to all. It can have no disposition to do other wise.
