A MafekingdiBpatch just received, but dated December 26, confirms reports of the British sortie from that place, which was first an nounced from Pretoria, December 30. The Mafeking dispatch says: "There was a sortie today with a re view of capturing the Boer earthworks, but it was successful. The works were crowded with Boers awaiting a?sault, and a hail of bullets forced the British to retire, killing and woundinga number.
