HUNGRY, BUT
NOT STARVING
Officials are Selling Rie for Immediate
Needs of SufiFerers Insurgents to
Wear White Uniform to Deceive
Our Troops.
New Yoek, June 7. A. dispatch to
the Herald from Manila says : Thous
ands of refugees who are attempting to
come to Manila are being turned back
by the authorities, who are fearful of
the city becoming overpopulated, caus
ing a pestilence and famine. There are
frequent eights on the country roads of
men, women and children etaggering
along under loads of household effects.
The refugees are hungry, but not
starving. The American officials are
issuing rice to them for their present
needs. Many of the refugees tell of be
ing forced to give up their supplies to
the insurgent army. They are afraid to
return to the enemy's lines on account
of possible attacks. The inaurgent
government is to issue an order for all
the military forces to discard their uni
forms and wear ordinary white in order
to deceive our army.
Communistic societies have been
formed in northern Luzon for the equal
division of property.

JEFFRIES FIGHT
New Yorkers Are Much Interested in
the Coming Contest
New Yobk, June 7, The greatest in
terest taken in the Fitz9immons-JeffrieB
fight is shown by the sale of seats. At a
recent auction sale of boxes every box
was sold, bringing $21,00. One box sold
afterward by a speculator to a party of
Wall-street men for $350. Last night
the directors of the Coney Island Sport
ing Club met and added' thirty-five new
boxes, nearly all of which have already
sold for a good round sum.
The $15 seats have been liberally pur
chased while hardly any of the $10 seats
are left, at least six rows having been
sold. The demand exceeds that for even
the Sharkey-Maher, Corbett-Sharkey or
McCoy-Sbarkey fight.- At a rough esti
mate the Coney Island Club has-sold
$45,000 worth of seats.

Would Not Suffer So Again for . Fifty
Times Its Fx Ice.
I awoke last night-with severe pains
in my stomach. I never felt so badly in
all my life. When I came down to work
this morning I felt so weak'I could hardly
work. I went to Miller & McCurdy's
drug store and they recommended
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diar
rhoea Remedy. It worked like magic
and one dose fixed me all right. It
certainly is the finest thing I. ever used
for stomach trouble. I Shall not be
without it in my home hereafter, for
I should not care to endure the sufferings
of last night again for fifty times its
price. G. H. Wilson, Liveryman, Bur-
gettstown, Washington Co., Pa. This
remedy is for sale by Blakeley & Hough
ton, Druggists.
Europe is Hot, Too.
London, June 7. A hot wave similar
to the one affecting New York prevails
over Europe. Hot weather as early in
June almost breaks all records. Ther
mometers in this city have been register
ing 88 in the shade for five days past.
There have been several deaths from
heat. A commercial traveler committed
suicide yesterday, saying: "I must get
out of the world ; I will suffocate."
Last fall I sprained my left hip while
handling some heavy boxes. The doctor
I called on said at first it was sslight
strain and would soon be well, but it
grew worse and the doctor then said I
had rheumatism. . It continued to grow
worse and I could hardly get around to
work. I went to a drug store and the
druggist recommended me to try Cham
berlain's Pain Balm. I tried it and one-
half of a 50 cent bottle cured me entire
ly. I now . recommend it to all my
friends. F. A. Babcock, Erie, Pa. It

A Card of Thanks.

our hearty thank. Respectfully, Mrs.
S. Doty, Des Moines, Iowa. For sale by
