Almost An Accident.
As Roy Brock and the Misses Laura
nd Helen Lytle trero returning from a

might have been a serious accident, but

caught the line wi h his tail and jerked
the lines out of Helen's hands, who was
driving. The horses began to run, and

populace for glittering display. In their
new patriotic spectacle Ringling Bros,
have conceived and brought to realiza
tion a display that dazzles while it de
lights, that mingles startled wonder
with gratified astonishment, that awak
ens all that is noblest and best in human
natnre through the thicefold intelligence
of the eye, the ear, and the intellect.
The comprehensive and striking title of
Ringling Brothers' new spectacle is
'The Last Days of the Century, or the
Light of Liberty," but this does little
more than sujgest the ecope of the dis
play or the possibilities of gorgeous
ornamentation and brilliancy of apparel.
The display is a magnificent reflex of
the legal splendors of the ancients,
combined with a vivid portraiture, upon
a scale of unequalled magnitude, of the
stirring events of the hour. Liberty is
typified by a series of allegorical
tableaux, in which are thrillingly pic
tured the geniua of American institu
tions and the glorious triumphs of
American arms on land and sea. In
the' varied scenes of the spectacle there
are utilized over a thousand characters,
representing with marvellous fidelity in
deportment and costuming the military
powers of the world ; whole troops of
American cavalry and entire battalions
of jolly j-ick tars; Her Majesty's 7th reg
iment of Hu?sars, the swellest of Eng
land's crack military organizations, led
by their famous mounted military band;
squadrons of German Uhlans and French
Cuirassiers ; platoons of Russian Cossacks
from the Steppes ; the Imperial Bashi
Bazouka of the Sultan's body guard ; a
detachment of Japanese -soldierly, and
other military organizations, all appear
