An Excellent Combination.
The pleasant mc-thocl and beneficial
effects of the well known remedy,
SyRUP of Figs, manufactured by the
California Fis Syrup Co., illustrate
the value of obtaining- the liquid laxa
tive principles of plants known to be
medicinally laxative and presenting
them in the form most refreshing to the
taste and acceptable to the system. It
is the one perfect strengthening laxa
tive, cleansing the system effectually,
dispelling colds, headaches and fevers
gently yet promptly and enabling one
to overcome habitual constipation per
manently. Its perfect freedom from
every objectionable quality and sub
stance, and its acting on the kidneys,
liver and bowels, without weakening
or irritating them, make it the ideal
laxative.
In the process of manufacturing figs
are used, as they are pleasant to the
taste, but the medicinal qualities of the
remedy are obtained from senna and
other aromatic plants, by a method
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only. In order to get its beneficial
effects and to avoid imitations, please
remember the full name of the Company
printed on the front of every package.

Too Fat to Live.
An Indian woman named Mrs. Abra
ham Lyman, from the Umatilla reser
vation, is in Walla Walla seeking relief
from obesity. For theee years she has
been getting fatter and fatter until ehe
is now in danger of being choked to
death by it. She ia 23 years of age and
weighs 275 pounds, which for her height
ia an enormous weight. She can walk
only with great difficulty and her face
ia drawn terribly out of shape by the
great cheeks that bulge out and hang
down on either side, while her arms are
bulged out on either aide aa though
propped up. The flesh hanga down her
sides in immense rolls and she ia
burden to herself. The main trouble ia
in breathing, she having great difficulty
to use her lungs, which must be wedged
tightly with the superfluous fat. The
physicians will first try anti-fat reme
dies, but u a satisfactory result ia not
obtained shortly an operation will be
performed and seventy to eighty pounds
of the fatty matter removed. The opera
jtion, however, may prove fatal.
