Died On the Simcoe Reservation
last winter, Albert Brown an aged
Klickitat. Many of the residents of our
(own will remember him, and of these
some will give him a kind thought, a9 of
a more than usually interesting char
acter. In that long procession which marks
the passing of his race, he was one that
to the student of history or psychology
would give points of valuable study.
His age could not be accurately ascer
tained. For several years he has been
over 80, without question. In 1835, he
was a pupil ot the pioneer missionary
and Indian teacher, Jason Lee, and
there received a bias, that always made
him the sincere friend of the while race.
It was curious to see how faithfully his
memory treasured even the words of in
stiuction. All the smoke and savagery
of wigwam lifecouid not obliterate thenn
He seemed to have taken them as words
from bis mother, into his very heart of
hearts, an 1 his whole life was changed
thereby. He was always on the side of
the whites. His superior intelligence
and penetration told him that the
Hood River j "Boston men," were the coming men.
it was policy on his part, therefore, to
make friends with the victors. But any
one who knew Albert well would know
there was kindness and true iriendli
ness in his heart toward those to whom
he looked as his superiors and whose
teachings his own people must accept
and follow if tLey would not be swept
from earth. Iu his early manhood he
rescued many a white wanderer, trap
per or explorer, shared with him the
supplies of his w igwam, and gave him
the use of his "cuitau" to set him on his
way.
In 1855, Albert -was with the troops
under General Joseph Lane in the
Rogue river war, and shared in the
glory of the conqueror now, general
aDd Indian scout are both gone at the
call of the greater conq aeror.
He was very happy during his reel
utnec in ludun town across Mill creik,
the last year of his lilt?. He felt that he
was "among his friends," and was
thoroughly grateful for kindness shown
hira. He took great interest in hearing
oi cue tuoan war ana asking questions
about it. "What colored men are fight
; n r . ...
uigt uo iney iock line Indians or
N g.-oes? v lien told of the success of
the American?, "Good ! I like that !" he
would say. He was fully as able and
more so, to nnderstai.d the eubj-ct as
those mountain men of Appalachian
America, who hearing of Spain's "flying
squadron" thought it would be "as apt
as any wheres to light som'ers here-
abonts in these mountains."
Good-bye to Albert. He surely was
one who as Longfellow said, "groping
blindly in the darkness, touched God's
right hand in the darkness, and was
lifted up and strengthened."

HI rCAflLU A I llnol AO will develop into Cancer of the worst type.
So many people die from Cancer simply be
feirnp DIIIP CQ cause they do not know just what the disease is;
lilLrik rilYlrLLui they naturally turn themselves over to the doctors,
and are forced to submit to a cruel and dangerous
operation the only treatment which the doctors know for Cancer. The disease
promptly returns, however, and is even more violent and destructive than
before. Cancer is a deadly poison in the blood, and an operation, plaster, or
other external treatment can nave no effect whatever upon it. The cure must
come from within the last vestige of poison must be eradicated.
Mr. Wm. Walpole, of Walshtown, S. D.f says: A
little blotch about the size of a pea came under my left
eye, gradually growing larger, from which shooting pains
at intervals ran in all directions. I became greatly alarmed
and consulted a good doctor, who pronounced it Cancer,
and advised that it be cut out, but this I could not con
sent to. I read in my local paper of a cure effected by
A S. S. B., and decided to try it. it acted like a cnarm, tne
very freely. This gradually grew less and then discon-
ped off. and now.onlv a healthy little scar remains where

because it is the only remedy which can go deep enough to reach the root of
the disease and force it out of the system permanently. A surgical operation
does not reach the blood the real seat of the disease because the blood can
not be cut away. Insist upon S. 8. S. ; nothing can take its place. -
S. S. S. cures also any case of Scrofula, Eczema, Rheumatism, Contagious'
Blood-Poison, Ulcers, Sores, or any other form of blood disease. Valuable
