Students Unduly Hilarious.
Ewene, March 12. The etudents of
tfa-e aoiversity have been in the babit of
giving vent to their enthusiasm in a loud
manner on occasions of victories in var
ioae contests. After the recent debating
cooteat at Forest Grove, on hearing the
dome team had won, a no tuber of the
tjoya paraded the streets at a late hour
in the night and gave the college yell,
and tuade various noises not calculated
to produce peaceful slumbers on the
part of the citizens of the town. Com
plaint was filed, and the officers gave
notice that if the act was repeated the
offenders would be arrested and punieh

aaccess of the university's representa
tive at McMinnville, there was another

-under -arrest and the names of ten others

Light and Water for Prineville.
Prineville, March 12. The city coun
cil has granted H. V. Gates, of Hillsboro,
a 15 years' electric light and water fran
chise. Bonds to the amount ot $10,000
will be issued. Work will begin in 30
days. .
The new steamboat Spokane, built by
the O. R. & N. Co- to ply on the Snake
river between Riparia and Lewiston, is
now complete, and in service. Steamer
Lewiston is also in service, and the two
steamers will alternate between Riparia
and Lewiston, leaving Riparia daily ex
cept Sunday on arrival of train No. 4
from Portland and reaching LewiBton
next day at 1 p. m. Returning, will
leave Lewiston daily except Saturday
at 12 o'clock noon, arriving at Riparia
at 7 p. m., connecting with train No. 3
from Spokane. Tbe Spokane has been
specially constructed for the run men
tioned above, and is thoroughly equip
ped with all modern appliances, electric
lights, etc., and for speed and comfort
will excel any craft that has ever been
built tor the Snake river. The Lewis
