Manila, March 4. 11:55 A. M. At
daylight General Wheaton's outpost dis
covered a large body of rebels attempt
ing to cross the. river for the ' purpose of
reinforcing the enemy at Guadaloupe.'
A gunboat advanced under a heavy fire,
poured shot into the jungle on both sides
of the river, and shelled the enemy's
position at Gaadaloupe effectively,
temporarily scattering the rebels. The
enemy's loss was heavy.
6:05 P. M. The rebels in the village
of San Jose fired on the United States
gunboat Bennington today, and ' the
warship shelled that place and other
euburba of Malabon this afternoon.
The United States transport Senator
has arrived here with reinforcements of
troops.
Admiral George Dewey raised bis flag
as admiral on board the Olympia this
morning, and was saluted by the guns of
the British cruiser Narcissus, the Ger
man cruiser Kaiserin Augusta, and the
American warships in port.
. Manila, March 5, 10 :15 A. M. General
Otis, accompanied by his aids, Captain
Murray and Lieutenant Slade, this
morning paid a formal visit to the mem
bers of the United States Philippine com
mission, which arrived here yesterday
afternoon from Hong Kong on board the

A house on the Ermite water front has
been prepared for the residence of tke

the only one of the commissioners who
has not arrived yet, is expected on tLe
next steamer from Hong Kong.
The vessel which arrived here yester
day and was reported as the transport
Ohio, turns out to be the gunboat Manila.
The error was caused by a dense fog.
The troops brought by the transport
Senator are still on board that vessel. .

until tonight the natnre of the service

apparent.
After he has taken the body of the
lord aboard, the rear-admiral will, it is
asserted, take command of the European
squadron, a most agreeable detail. The
squadron will begin making . up this
month, and it is thought that the
Biooklyn will have . returned from her
mission to England in time to be placed
at the bead of the fleet by the end of the

New Yoek, March 4. A special to the
Journal and Advertiser from Washing
ton says: Rear-Admiral Schley has been
directed by the president to accompany
the body of Lord Herschell to England.
This fact has not been given out officially
by the government, but it is officiary
announced that the Brooklyn will bear
the body of the eminent Englishman
back to his native country, and the
vessel has been detached from the
Havana station and ordered to Hampton
Roads to prepare for the trip.
It had been previously announced that
Bear-Admiral Schley was to leave the
Porto Kican commission, and would re
ceive a new sea command. It was
known that the vessel he would com
mand was the , crosier - Brooklyn, bqt
Heart trouble?, at least among .the
Americans, are certainly increasing, and
while this may be largely due to the ex
citement and worry, of American busi
ness life, it is more often the result of
weak stomachs, of poor digestion.
. Real organic disease is incurable ; but
not one case in a hundred of heart
trouble is organic. ( 1
The close relation between heart
trouble and poor digestion is because
both organs are controlled by the same
great nerves, the Sympathetic and
Pneumogastric.
In another way, also the heart is ef
fected by the form of poor digestion,
which causes gas and fermentation from
half digested food. There is a feeling ot
oppression and heaviness in the chest
caused by pressure of the distended
stomach on the heart and lungs, inter
fering with their action ; hence arisen
palpitation and short breath.
Poor digestion also poisons the blood,
making it thin and watery, which irri
tates and weakens the heart.
The most sensible treatment for heart
trouble is to improve the disgestion au
to insure the prompt assimilation
food. .
This can be done by the regular uja
a'ter meals of eome safe, pleasant r .1
effective digestive preparation, like
Stuart's Dyepepsia Tablets, which may
be found at most drug stores, and which
contain ' valuable, harmless digestive
elements in a pleasant, convenient form
It is safe to say that the regular per
sistent use of Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets
at meal time will cure any form of
stomach trouble except cancer of the
stomach. ' " -
Full sized package of these tablets
sold by druggists at 50 cents. Little
book on stomach troubles mailed free,

I Grippe Successfully Treated.
"I have just recovered from .the sec
ond attack of La Grippe this year," says
Mr. Jas. A; Jones, publisher of the
Leader, ' Mexia, Texas. "In the latter
case I need Chamberlain's Cough-Remedy,
and I think with considerable suc
cess, only being in bed a little over two
days againBt ten days for the former at
tack. The second attack I am satisfied
would have been equally as bad as the
first but for the use of this emedy as 1
had to go to bed in abont six hours after
being 'struck' with it, while in the first
case I was able to attend to business
about two days before getting 'down,' "

Bow to Prevent Pneumonia.
' Ton are perhaps aware that pneu
monia always results from a cold or from
an attack of La Grippe. During . the
epidemic of La Grippe a few years ago
when so many caees resulted in pneu
monia, it was observed that the attack
was never followed by that disease when
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy was used.
It counteracts any tendency of a cold or
La Grippe to result in that dangerous
disease. It is the beBt remedy in the
world for bad colds and La Grippe.

This week it's "Hat-noise;" every body

satisfied until he's wearing one.
