T2S EXCEUEfiCE OF SYRUP CF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Svrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing1 the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Svrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fia Sykup Co. with the medi-
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the same of

CONGRESS IS SLOW.
Many Oreeon Klver and Harbor Im-
" romnta are Being Held Dp.
A good many improvements are be
ing held up in Oregon cd account of the
delav of congress in passing the river
and harbor bill. The appropriations
neceeeary to carry forward many river
and bay -contracts have not yet bceu
made, but are to be included in the river
and harbor hill now pending.
Among those held up in this pare of
the country are the jetties at the en
trance to Coquille river, removing ob
structions in upper Ooquille river, the
completion oi the jetties at the entrance
'to Coos bay, the removal of obstructions
in Coos river, the jetties at tne moutn
of Siuslaw river, the jetties of Yaquina
bay, work in Tillamook bay and the
completion of the work on the Cascade
locks. The upper walla at the locks
have never been completed, though the
locks can be ueed as thev now stand.
There is another job which depends
partly on the river and harbor appro
priations. It is the proposed boat rail
way from The Dalles to Celilo. All of
the right of way has not yet been
arranged for this boat railway, although
it has been condemned, and the papers
have long since been forwarded to
Washington for approval. When they
are returned and the condemned pro
perty is paid for by the government,
nothing will remain to be done, but the
appropriating of the funds sufficient to
do the work. t
Major Hart's office, while always busy,
will be doing business on a large ecale as
soon as the necessary appropriations are
made to push forward the above con
tracts. Telegram.

How to Prevent Pneumonia.
ion are pernaps aware that pneu
monia always results from a cold-or from
an attack of La Grippe. DuriDg the
epidemic of La Grippe a few years ago
when so many cases resulted in pneu
monia, it was observed that the attack
was never followed by that disease when
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy was used.
It counteracts any tendency of a cold or
La Grippe to result in that dangerous
disease: It is the best remedy in the
world for - bad colds and La. Grippe.
