General Miller Reports That the
Filipinos in the Suburbs of lloilo
are Believed to be Disintegrating.
New Yobk, Feb. 21. A dispatch to
tbe Herald from Manila says: The
enemy were concentrating all day at tbe
water works and in front of King's bri
gade. They became so nagging in front
of King's position that tbe general sent
two companies of tbe First Washington
infantry over tbe Pasig river. Tbey
swept tbe country for two miles and
then swung over tbe river bank, oppo
site the insurgent trenches facing the
American position at Macati, and opened
a flank fire on the insurgents across the
river.
Two guns of the Sixth artillery, nnder
Lieutenant Ecott, pounded the insur
gent positions, while tbe troops from
Macati charged and drove the enemy
before them. Fifteen Filipino dead
were found and four wounded. Two
American soldiers were wounded by tbe
explosion ot Springfield rifles.
The declaration of Aguinaldo that he
has made a human war is a fabrication.
In the past few weeks the Bed Cross has
baen like a red flag to the insurgents.

testifies that he has been shot at by

well as to the American wounded, were
a target for the sharpshooters. A
wounded man who was being carried
from the field was killed by insurgents
concealed in a tree. Tbe Red Cross peo

Euaeka flat, and the farmers there have
already commenced rt seeding. In a few
sections the wheat was protected by tbe

be resceded. An accurate estimate of
tbe damage done cannot be made nntil
the ground is thoroughly thawed out,
but it is feared that it will be worse tban
was first reported. Advices from Uma

of the wheat there has also been destroy

in making examination of their lands,
with different results. Each farmer
will have to decide tbe question for
himself, as there is no welt-defined
district in which the wheat has been destroyed.

All Quiet at lloilo.
. Washington, Feb. 21. The war de
partment has received the following:
Manila, Feb. 21. General Miller un
der date of February 19, reports that the
insurgent forces of a few miles out from
lloilo are believed to be disintegrating.
He can maintain his position with tbe
present force. Business in the city is
being resumed. ' He has sent up four
representative men, officials of the cap
ital, from the island of Negros, where
tbe Americans rnieed their flag, and
American protection is requested against
small insurgent forces in the island.
Affairs there and in Cuba are .very en
couraging. .'
Affairs here are quiet. A small insur
gent force east of the city was driven
away with a considerable loss to the
the enemy.
Manila. Feb. 21. 1:15 p. m. The
transport Newport has arrived from Ilo
' ilo with dispatches from Miller to Otis.
She reports all quiet at lloilo. The
American troops there are occupying
tbe suburbs of Jaro and Molo, business
has been resumed generally with tbe
outside world, and there has been no
fighting since February 12.
All is quiet at Manila. ibe beat is

Catarrh of tbe stomach has long been
considered the next thing, to incurable.
The usual symptoms are a full or bloat
ing sensation after eating, accompanied
sometimes with sour and watery risings,
a formation of gases, causing pressure
on the heart and lungs and difficult
breathing; headaches, fickle appetite,
nervousness and a general played out
languid feeling.
There is often a foul taste in the mouth
coated tongue and if tbe interior of tbe
stomach could be seen it would show a
slimy, inflamed condition.
The cure of this common and obsti
nate trouble is found in a treatment
which causeB the food to be readily .thor
oughly digested before it can to ferment
and irritate the delicate mucus surfaces
of tbe stomach. To secure a prompt and
healthy digestion is the one necessary
thing to do,'aud when normal digestion
is secured the catarrhal condition will
have disappeared.
According to Dr. Harlanson the safest
and best treatment is to use after each
meal a tablet, composed of Diatase, Asep
tic Pepsin, a little Nux, Golden Seal
and fruit acids. - These tablets can now
be found at all drugstores under tbe
name of Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets, and
not being a patent medicine can be used
with perfect safety and assurance that
healthy appetite and thorough digestion
will certainly follow their regular use af
ter meals.
Mr. N- J. Booher, of 2710 Dearborn r
street, Chicago, 111., writes: " "Catarrh'
is a local condition resulting rom a
neglected cold in the head, wbereby the
lining membranes of. the nose become
inflamed and the ' poisonous discharge
therefrom passing backward into the
throat reaches tbe stomach, thus pro
ducing catarrh of the stomach. Medical
authorities prescribed for me for" three
years for catarrh of the stomach without
cure, but today I am tbe happiest of
men after using only one box of Stuart's
Dyspepsia Tablets. I cannot, find ap
propriate words to express my good feel
ing. I have found flesh, appetite and
sound rest from their use."
Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets is tbeeafest
preparation as well as the simplest and
most convenient remedy for any form of
ndigestion, catarrh of tbe stomach,
billiousnees, eour stomach, heartburn
and bloating after meals.

Philadelphia, Feb. 19. Mrs. Charles
Fahrenkamp, aged .33 years ; her two
children, Florence and William, aged 10
and 9 years, and an unknown woman,'
aged about 35 years, were found dead to
day in a room in Mrs. Fahrenkamp's
home, on North Fifty-second street." The
gas was turned on and life had apparently
been extinct for several days. Scattered
about the first floor were, remnants of
cigars and cigarettes and empty beer
and whisky bottles.
The bodies were found by a next-door
neighbor, who had forced an entrance to
the bouse. Tbe last beard from the i
mates of the house was Thursday night,
when the piano was kept playing until a
late hour. Mrs. Fabrenkamp's husband,
who is a traveling salesman, left home
about a week ago on business for his firm

Skagway, Alaska, Feb. 16, via Seattle,
Feb. 20, The task of building a railroad
along the precipitous side of the canyon
from Skagway to the summit ot White
pass, an elevation, of nearly 3000 feet,
has been completed. The first carload
of freight was delivered on the summit
yesterday. Tbe event was made the
occasion of an exchange of courtesies be
tween the railway and Canadian officials,
From the summit to Lake Bennett the
work of construction is comparatively
easy, and the track will, be laid in a few

Brussels, Feb. 21. The Duke of Or

is reported that be considers the moment
opportune for a monarchistic attempt iu
France. He will consult with the lead
ers of his party on the matter.
New Yobk, Feb. 21. A Bpecial to the
Herald from Paris says :
Tbe Figaro says that M. Jules Le
M ait re' s letter is causing serious splits
in the League Patrie Francaise. The
Figaio publishes this interview with
Prince Henri of Orleans on the subject
of votes for him on Saturday :
'Certainly I was not a candidate, but
it undoubtedly gives me pleasure. I
have always worked simply , for my
country, bowing before tbe government
given to it by tbe national will eleven
years ago. At present things are greatly
changed. I think there is a disagreement
between the government and the feel
ing of the people. That is what tbe last
election has clearlv shown.
Tbe period of humiliation abroad and
disturbance at home, though just paesed,
shows the necessity of a change in the
constitution.
"The only form of government which
conciliates the rights and needs of de
mocracy with the exigencies of a great
power that has neighbors, can be had
by the confidence of all in one to give
satisfaction to the demands of the peo
ple, tbe interest of threatened trade and
industry, and the feelings of honor and
justice which we bear."
"Would vou consent to be the head of
such a government?"
"I am always at the disposal of my
country."
