THE EXCELLENCE OF SYKUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fia SrBUP
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Struf Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the CALI
FORNIA JPi'i Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company

Want to Master Oat at Manila.
The so'diera in Manila are hoping
fiat they will be mastered out there,
sad al'.owel the mileaje and pay which
would be due them. A recent order
issued to paymasters eives the follow'
instructions:
"All offices will be entitled to one
day's pav for every 20 miles of travel
from place of muster out to place of en
rollment. Enlisted men will be en
titled to the same, and to subsistence at
the rate of 30 cents per day for every 20
miles traveled as above. ' Fractions of
day, less than one-half (ten miles) will
not be considered. For a day, equal to
half a day, a full day's pay will be al
lowed." .
As there are 420 days' travel "between
here and Manila, allowing 'twenty. miles
to a day, this would mean a good "clean
up" for the boys, and the officers would
get home as corpulent as a lucky Klon
diker. -

Mr. Jas. A. Jones', . publisher of the
Leader, Mexia, Texae. "In the latter
case I used Chamberlain's 'Cough Rem

cess, only being in bed a little over two
days against ten days for the former at
tack. The second attack I am satisfied
would have been equally as bad as the
first but for the use of this, remedy as 1
had to go to bed in abont six hours after
being 'struck' with it, while in the first
case I was able to attend to business
about two days before getting 'down.' "

How to Prevent Pneumonia.
You are perhaps aware that pneu
monia always results from a cold or from
an attack of La Grippe. Daring the
epidemic of La Grippe a few years ago
when eo many cases resulted in pneu
monia, it was observed that the attack
was never followed by that disease when
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy was used,
It counteracts any tendency of a cold or
La Grippe to result in that dangerous
disease. It is the beet remedy in the
