TEE EXCELLENCE OF SYEUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Svbttp
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing' the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the Camfoksia, Fig Sykuf Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
B3sist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fio Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
tie name cf the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
os it acts on the kidneys, liver and
Ijowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

BUYING A STRAW HAT.
There I Sore to De TrooWe Ahead
for the Man Whose Wife Ac
companies Htm.
The average man never thinks of re
placing his Easter headgear until the
first hot day mokes it feel like a cast
iron helmet. Then he either rushes
into a hat store and comes out again
a poorer man in a new straw hat or is
weak enough to tell his wife that he is
contemplating such n purchase.
This last is folly, for though a wom
an will let her husband buy his winter
hats unaided she always thinks that
he needs her judgment in selecting a
straw. She offers to go with him and
when he makes a feeble demurrer and
says that he doesn't want to take her
time she folds her lips together with
the air of a martyr and says that, she
will "make' the time," although she
ought to be making her pique skirt.
There isa preliminary dispute over the
shop, for she knows of a department
store where you can buy beautiful
straw hats for VS cents, and be has a
man's natural hatred for the places
where everything is sold. He gains his
point, and they enter a furciEhing slore.
There is a sudden dropping away of
clerks, for the hat salesman dreads a
woman as a burnt child dreads the fire.
Finally, a clerk is cornered behind an
embankment of bicycle caps. The hus
band asks for a medium-priced hat,
while his spouse pokes a collection of
Panamas contemptuously.
The elevk burrows in a mine of hats
under the counter and brings to the
surface an inoffensive . lid of fine
straw. He sets it on the head of the
husband, who tries to look unconscious,
and doesn't know what to do with his
hands. The clerk says: "It is very
neat," and the wife says that it is en
tirely too small for a man with a round
face. Another hat is brought up from
the submarine mine, and this falls over
the victim's ears. The wife sniffs and
picks up a hat at random, which she
claps on her better half s head. He
looks like a comic valentine, and tells
her to let the hat salesman select the
headgear.
The salesman goes to another coun
ter and brings an armful of hats, which
he tries oa the husband. "I would n t
be seen on the street with you if you
take that hat," she says, and he turns
slowly before a glass to get the view
from all points.
"I have just one more line," the clerk
says, and picks up the first hat that was
tried on. He hands it to the wife, with a
wink at the husband. She examines
it approvingly. "Why didn't you show
this to us first?" she asks, sternly.
"Do take it, and let us get away from
A here," she concludes to her husband
Th'e clerk claps t on the husband's
ead, takes his money and address in
rder to forward the discarded hat, and
ihpv irn out. When thev reach the
j 0
sidewalk the. wife sighs: "Wasn't it
fortunate that I went with you? That
man would have palmed off that first
hat on you. It made you a perfect guy,
too. Those salespeople have simply no
consciences ! " Chicago Chronicle.

Leading institutions throughout the United Ptates
and Canada, and have been adopted by Gay's and West-
minster Hospitals, In1on, England. In thia Truss
the principle hitherto so greatly desired has at
last been achieved, that of firmly and constantly hold
ing the rupture with a gentle hand-like pressure.
It does not pass around the hip like other trusses,
bat over the hips, the silver wire lying in the hollow of
side, thereby allowing the free movement of the hips
and limbs, allowing the wearer to stride out freely, and
doing away with the fear and dread that something
will eo wrong that usually attends the wealing of other
trusses. .
Its lightness is featherweight in comparison with
other trasses. It is so livbt the wearer scarcely knows
he has anything on, and this is a xreit comfort, enab
ling the wearer to forget his ailments.
