THE EXCELLENCE OF SYBUP OF FIGS
Is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the Califoknia Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
All the importance of purchasing- the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fia Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist ons in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. .The hig-h standing of the Cali
fornia Fro Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
. the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far iu advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial

A Mother's Loss.
The Red Cross Society in Portland has
received from Captain Wells, at Manila,
a letter written to him by Mrs. .Jennie
Field, dated Centaur Station, Mo.. Aug.
15th, as follows :
"Would you be kind enough to in
form me if my boy, William Field, is
etill in your company ? I have not heard
fnun him pi nee just before his regiment
left for Manila, and now it is important
that I should hear what he intends to
' do in regard to our future home before I
make any definite arrangements for the
winter."
Letters have been written from this
city t Mrs. Field, and papers sent which
contained notices of the death of hereon,
fur whom the mother made such inqui
ry. She no doubt fully realizes by this
time fiat her home for the winter must
be made without reference to her boy,
, wnosB presence cannot cheer it, for he
h parsed to that home where the sea-
e 'no do not affect him, but where is one
continual spring.

Deafness Cannot be Cored
by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear
There is only one way to cure deafness
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deafness is caused by an inflamed con
dition of the mucous lining of the Eus
tachian Tube. When this tube is in
flamed you have a rumbling sound or
imperfect hearing, and when it is en
tirely closed, Deafness is the result, and
unless the inflammation can be taken
out and this tube restored to its normal
condition, hearing will be destroyed for-
ever; nine cases out of tea are caused
by catarrh, which is nothing but an in
flamed condition of the mucous sur
faces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh'
Cure. Send for circulars ; free.

I am very pleased to state that since
I took the agency of Chamberlain's
medicines the sale baa been very large,
more especially of the Cough Remedy.
In two years I have sold more of this
particuliar remedy than of all other
makes for the previous fiye years. As
to its efficacy, I have been informed by
scores of persons of the good results they
have received from it, and know its
value from the use of it in my own house
hold. It is so pleasant to take that we
have to place the bottle beyond the
reach of the children.

A Clever Trick;
It certainly looks like it, but there is
really no trick about it. Anybody can
try it who has lame back and weak kid
neys, malaria or nervous troubles. We
mean he can cure himself right away by
taking Electric Bitters. This medicine
tones up the whole system, acts as a
stimulant to the Liver and Kidneys, is a
blood purifier and nerve tonic. It cures
constipation, headache, fainting spells,
sleeplessness and melancholy. It is
purely vegetable, a, mild laxative, and
restores the system to its natural vigor.
Try Electric Bitters and be convinced
that they are a miracle worker. Every
bottle guaranteed. Only 50c a bottle at
Blakeley & Houghton's drug store. 3

Millions Given' Away!
It is certainly gratifying to the public
to know of one concern in the land who
are not afraid to be generous to the needy
and suffering. The proprietors of Dr.
King's New Discovery for Consumption,
Caughs and Colds, have given away over
ten million trial bottles of this great
medicine; and have the satisfaction of
knowing it has absolutely cured thous
ands of hopeless cases. Asthma, Bron
chitis, Hoarseness and diseases of the
Throat, Chest and Lungs are surely
cured by it. Call on Blakeley & Hough
ton, druggists, and get a trial bottle free.
Regular size 50c. and $1. Every bottle
guaranteed, or price refunded. 3
A Sure Sign of Croup.
Hoarseness in a child that is subject
to crcup is a sure indication of the ap
proach of the disease. If Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy is given as soon as the
child becomes hoarse, or even after the
croupy cough has appeared, it will pre
vent the attack. Maov mothers who
have croupy children always keep this
remedy at hand and find that it saves
them much trouble and . worry. It can
alwavs be depended upon and i3 pleasant
to take. For eale by Blakeley & Hough

last number of Poor Richard's Almanac,

the principle hitherto so greatly desired has at
last been achieved, that of firmly and constantly hold
ing the rupture with a gentle hand-like pressure.
It does not pass around the hip like other trusses,
bat over the hips, the silver wire lying in the hollow of
side, thereby allowing the free movement of the hips
and limbs, allowing the wearer to stride out freely, and .
doing away with the fear and dresd that something
will go wrong that usually attends the wearing of other
trusses. -
Its lightness is featherweight in comparison with
other trusses. It is so lieht the wearer scarcely knows
he has anything on, and this is a arrest comfort, enab
ling the wearer to forget his ailments.
