THE EXCELLENCE CF SYBUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Sitbup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
aUl the importance of purchasing- the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Fig's is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding- the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The hig-h standing of the Cali
fornia Fji Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
liowels without irritating1 or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company

From the New York Tribune in re

"The recital of Hamlet last evening,
by Samuel E. Wells, was listened to by
an audience of about 1200 persons. It
was certainly a scholarly production, a
marvelous piece of work from start to
finish, and entertaining in tbe highest

"Company have done another "good turn"
-flftjc Oregon. Through its efforts the Na
Xrional Editorial Association will hold its
regular annual session for 1899 in Port
land. It will be attended by newspaper
men from all parts of the United States.
One of the influences that attracted tbe
meeting of Portland was the speech
made by Colonel Pat DoLon, at tbe re
cent annual session of the association in
Denver. The passenger department of
theO. R. & N. Company, under the
wide awake management of W. H. Hurl
bnrt, the general passenger agent, sent
Colonel Donan there to make that
epeech. It did the business, and the
press boys from all parts of Uncle Sam's
domain are coming to Portland to
where rolls the Oregon and we should
all give them a most royal welcome.

Tt;e readiness to accept tbe wonderful
and miraculous in preference to com-
monplace truth. A plausible and ght
tongued doctor can go from town to town
curing, or tryiDg to cure, people, and
have a great influx of shekels, while
every community in which the so-called
doctor goes is supplied with quiet,
learned practilionors, who have forgotten
more than the fakir ever learned, and
they can give you the best-treatment
within the reach of human knowledge.
While your home doctors carry you from
