TEE EXCELLENCE OF SYBUP CF FIGS
Is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
. manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Svbup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fro Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding1 the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fro Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company

ONE BY ONE THEY PASS AWAY
Pioneer Hampton Kelly Dies
at Ilia
Ilome at Jnntier Flat.
One by one the old pioneers are leav
ing us, and it eeetns that every few
days we are called upon to record the
passing away of Rome one of Oregon's
brave pioneer men and women. Today
word was received of the death of Hamp
ton Kelly, at his farm cn Juniper Flat
Sunday evening at 7 o'clock.
Not a resident ia the county was better
and more favorably known than was
Mr. Kelly, who came to Oregon in 1848
from Kentucky. Eighteen years ago he
settled in Wasco county, and has since
made his borne near Wamic. He was a
eon of one of the first members of Tay
lor street church iu Portland, and waa
himself a devout Christian, dying i
triumphant death.
For the past year he has been suffer
ing from dropsy, and eome time ago was
taken to Portland for treatment. There
he had a paralytic stroke, and about ten
days ago returned home, where he
steadily grew worse, until last night,
surrounded by his family and friends he
said the last farewell.
He leaves a wife and six grown chil
dren four eons and two daughters.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at
the family home on Juniper Flat.
BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR HUBBY.
Tbta la Not the Old Joke, the Endlne
la Brand-New.
"You would never guess," eaid one
woman to another oa the elevated road,
reports the Chicago Times-Herald,
"what I have in that package."
"It looks rather formidable," an
fcwered the friend. "Why did you not
have it sent?"
"Oh, I want to sneak it in, and put
it out of sight until to-night, when I
will bring it out for a surprise. It is
my husband's birthday present." ... .
"Oh. Is this his birthday?"
"So, indeed. His birthday was last
February, but he could not let me have
the money then, and he's such a dear
good soul I just waited and waited un
til he could. It will be lust as mucn 01
a surprise to him because he has for
gotten what I wanted it ror.
"But he has nad to wait, too. uian
he mind that?"
"Not a bit. You see it is a lovely
Bmoking set, an ornament for the libra
ry and quite expensive. Jtle win De so
pleased, and I wanted to snow mm
that I was not always tmniung- just 01
myself, but could spend money for his
comfort, too."
"How nice of you," said her friend,
"how he will enjoy it when he sits after
dinner and' smokes, and "
"Oh. he doesn't smoke. You don't
suppose I'd do anything to encourage
smoking, or live with a man who
smoked. The idea!"
And having reaohed her station she
tenderly conveyed her purchase out of
the car while her friend sat Btiu ana
wondered.

A Clever Trick:
It certainly looks like it, but there is
really no trick about it. Anybody can
try it who has lame back and weak kid
neys, malaria or nervous troubles. We
mean he can cure himself right away by
taking Electric Bitters. This medicine
tones up the whole system, acts as a
stimulant to the Liver and Kidneys, is a
blood purifier and nerve tonic. It cures
constipation, headache, fainting spells,
sleeplessness and melancholy. It is
purely vegetable, a mild laxative, and
restores the system to itB natural vigor.
Try Electric Bitters and be convinced
that they are a miracle worker. Every
bottle guaranteed. Only 50c a bottle at
Blakeley & Houghton's drug store. 3
How to Prevent Croup.
We have two children who are subject
to attacks of croup. Whenever an attack
is coming on my wife gives them Cbam
berlin's Cough Remedy and it always
prevents the attack. It ia a household
necessity in thisjeountry, and no matter
what else we run out of, it would Dot do
to be without Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy. More of it is Bold here than
of all other cough medicines combined.
