THE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FIGS
' is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
! manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Sybup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
All the importance of purchasing- the
rue and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
Assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fin Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
riar in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

Notice to Delinquent Taxpayer.
The delinqent taxes of Wasco county,
as shown on the rolls now in the hands
of the sheriff are $60,000, an amount al
most equal to the indebtedness of the
county. Every citizen will doubtless
admit that this state of affairs should
not exist, and that all taxes should be
collected. On account of hard times
in the past the county court Las shown
leniency to taxpayers, but that leniency
has reached the limit, and the court
cannot wait longer on delinquents to
make settlements. For this reason a
warrant has been attached to each de
linquent roll commanding the sheriff to
collect all taxes by seizure and sale of
property. With a bountiful crop now
in sight, there can no longer be any rea
sonable excuse for the non-payment of
taxes. The sheriff is bound by oath to
comply with the terms of the warrants
attached to the tax rolls for the collec
tion thereof, and has no option in the
matter. Delinquent taxpayers can save
the cost of seizure and sale of property
by settling their taxes at once.
Robert Kelly,
Sheriff and Tax Collector for Wasco
County.

Deafness Cannot De Cared
by local applications, as thev cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deafness,
and that is by constitutional remedies.
uealness is caused uy an inflamed con
dition of the mucous lining of the Eua
tachian Tube. When this tube is in
flamed you have a rumbling sound or
imperfect hearing, and when it is eu
tirely closed, Deafness is the result, and
unless the inflammation can be taken
out and this tube restored to its normal
condition, hearing will be destroyed for
ever ; nine cases out of ten are caused
by catarrh, which is nothing but an in
flamed condition of the mucous sur
faces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deaf ness (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh
Cure. Send for circulars; free.

Chaplain C. C. CQeCabe,
BISHOP IN THE M. E. CHURCH,
In answer to an urgent call by the church in
this city, will deliver his famous lecture on the
"Biilt Side of Life in LiMy Prison,"
AT THE
Methodist Church, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m.
This continues to be one of the moet noted lectures ot the day. Ik is always
given in the interests of the church, and has made for it more than $150,000.
The price of this lecture in all Eastern cities is $1.00, but we have reduced the
price to 50 cents, to give all an opportunity to hear it, eeoeciaily accomodating
those of neighboring towns and counties.
Bishop McCabe sees a bright side in every thine. This lecture is instructive,
entertaining and inspiring. It was Chaplain McCabe that tore up bin shirt to make
a flag with which to celebrate the 4th of July in Libby Prison. His singing has
inspired many a eoul to deeds of heriosm and many a fainting heart to renewed
courage.

P. E. Butler, of pack-train No. 3,
writing from Sandiago, De Cuba, on
July 23d, says: "We all had diarrhoea
in more or lees violent form, and when
we landed we had no time to see a
doctor, for it waa a case of rush and rush
night andday to keep tbe troops sup
plied with ammunition and rations, but
thanks to Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera
and Diarrhoea Remedy, we were able to
keep lit work and keep our health ; in
fact, I sincerely believe .that at one
critical time this medicine was the in
direct saviour of our army, for if the
packers bad been unable to work there
would have been no way of getting sup
plies to the front. There were no roads
that a wagon train could use. My com

lay in a supply of this medicine for out

know in fonr cases it absolutely eaved
