THE EXCELENCS OF SYEUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
! manufactured by scientific processes
' known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
11 the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the Califounia Fig Syruf Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding1 the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing of the Cali
TOKNIA F.'O Sykup Co. with the medi
al profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs ha3
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all ether laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
"bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. Ia order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company

POLITICS IN KLICKITAT"
Republican Primaries Made Thine
Lively in Goldendale.
Saturday the Republican urimarles
were held at the various precincts in
Klickitat. The fact that a nomination
on the Republican ticket at the coming
county convention will be equivalent to
an election this fall, caused a fight for
the well-paying offices of sheriff and
auditor. For t'te former William D.
Burgen and A. R. Graham lead. Will
F. Byars, Goldendale's well-known
newspaper man, is a condidate, while
James W. Butler and Piofeaeor C. M.
Ryman want the same office. Hon.
James Wheelhousa and Charley Kayser
have been mentioned for the legislature.
Mr. Wheelhousa is known as the Re
publican "war-horse of Klickitat."
Attorney N. B- Brooks, a Silver Re
publican, expressed himself as being
surprised yesterday on the receipt of the
news at Goldendale that he was nomi
nated by the Ellensburr convention for
joint senator of the twelfth senatorial
district. Mr. Brooks ia in doubt as to
accepting the nomination. Nelson B.
Brooks is about forty years of age, and
ia a native of Michigan. He was a
member of the Washington territorial
legislature of 1883, and later served as
ounty school eupintendeat of Klickitat

A CRITICAL TIME
During the Battle at
Santiago.
SICK OR WjSj-L, A RUSH
NIGHT AND DAY.
The Packers at the Battle of Santiago de
Cuba Were all Heroes Their Heroic
Kfforts In Getting Ammunition and
ICatlons to the Front Saved the Day.
P. E. Butler, of pack-train No. 3,
writing from Sandiago, De Cuba, on
July 23d, says: "We all bad diarrhoea
in more or less violent form, and when
we landed we had no time to see a
doctor, for it was a case of rush and rush
night and day to keep the troops sop
plied with ammunition and rations, but
thanks to Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera
and Diarrhoea Remedy, we were able to
keep at work and keep our health ; in
fact, I sincerely believe that at one
critical time this medicine was the in
direct saviour of our army, for if the
packers had been unable to work there
would have been no way of getting sup
plies to the front. There were no roads
that a wagon train could use. My corn-
rail and myself had the good fortune to
lay in a supply of this medicine for out
pack-train before we left Tampa, Rnd I
know in four caees it absolutely caved
life."

manufacturers of this medicide, the

Iowa. For sale by Blakelev and Houeh-

Notice to Delinquent Taxpayers.
The delinqent taxes of Wasco counly,
as shown on th6 rolls now in the hands
of the sheriff are $60,000, an amount al
most equal to the indebtedness of the
county. Every citizen will, doubtless
admit that this state of affairs should
not exist, and that all taxes Bhould be
collected. On account of hard times
in the past the county court Las shown
leniency to taxpayers, but that leniency
has reached the limit, and the court
cannot wait longer on delinquents to
make settlements. For this reason
warrant has been attached to each de
linquent roll commanding the sheriff to
collect all taxes by seizure and sale of
property. With a bountiful crop now
in sight, there can no longer be any rea
sonable excuse for the non-payment of
taxes. The eheriff is bound by oath to
comply with the terms of the warrants
attached to the tax rolls for the collec
tion thereof, and has no option in the
matter. Delinquent taxpayers can save
the cost of seizure an 1 sale of property
by settling their taxes at once.

Sheriff and Tax Collector for Wasco
County.
