TEE EXCELLENCE OF SYKCP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. bnly, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Fig's is manufactured
by the Califoisnia Fiq Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist on 3 in avoiding' the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
ties. The high standing- of the Cali
fornia Fra Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

THE . COLUMBIA SOUTHERN.
The New Kxtenalon Completed to a Sta
tloo Fourteen Miles from Bigg
Called Klondike.
By a recent circular emanating from
the headquarters of the Columbia South
ern Railway Company at Wasco, this
official announcement is made:
"To agents and connecting lines :
"The extension of this company's line
has been completed to a point fourteen
miles from Biggs, and the station of
Klondike, Oregon, has been established
thereat.
"E. E. Lytle, Pres. .
D. C. O'Reilly, Gen. Mgr."'
When (his is completed it is reported
that it will reach as far as Prineville.
The surveys of the proposed Eastern
Oregon from Albany to Ontario were re
ported complete long ago. The same
territory will be tributary to both lines,
although the latter, of course, will be the
much longer line of the two. The ad
vantage of the former over the latter,
however, lies in the fact that actual con
struction is in progress, and it will nat
urally be the first in the field.
When the Columbia Southern is
opened to Prineville it will tap a very
productive country, rich in wool and
cattle interests, now looking for market.
This will find its way to The Dalles, and
naturally tend to greatly promote the
growth and business interests of that
place. Telegram.
The Columbia Southern will either
strike it rich or it will be a cold day for
it when it reaches Klondike.

A lilac bush in bloom at this season
of the year is something of an oddity.
J. E. Miller has one of the shrubs in his
yard in North Pendleton which ceaeed
blooming for the fir9t crop of flowers
about Decoration day. Mr. Miller then
put his scheme into effect and forced a
second growth of blosso'ms, with which
the bush is now covered. He says lilac
bushes can be made to bloom twice each
year if a " person only knows how to
go about it. Many interested in the
cultivation of flowers have visited this
rare specimen of August-blooming lilac,
and Mr. Miller has been compelled to
give away more than half cf the blos

years I have been almost a constant euf

rendering me unfit for my duty at this
hotel. About two years ago a traveling
salesman kindly gave me a small bottle
of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and

very satisfactory and almost complete

Thankful words written by Mrs. Ada
E. Hart, of Grot on, S. D. "Was taken
with a bad cold which settled on my
lunjs ; cough set in and finally termin
ated in Consumption. Four doctors
gave me up, saying I could live but a
short time. I gave myself up to my
Savior, determined if I could not stay
with my friends on earth, I would meet
my absent ones above. My husband
was advised to get Dr. King's New Dis
covery for Consumption, Coughs and
Colds. I gave it a trial, took in all eight
bottles. It has cured me, and thank
God I am saved and now a well and
healthy woman." Trial bottles free at

About one month ago my child, which
is fifteen months old, had an attack of
diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting. I
gave it such remedies as are usually
given in such cases, but as nothing gave
relief, we sent for a physician and it was
under his care for a week. At this time
the child had been sick for about ten
days and was having about twenty-five
operations of the bowels every twelve
hours, and we were convinced that un
less it soon obtained relief it would not
live. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy was recommended,
and I decided to try it. I soon noticed a
change for the better; by its continued
use a complete cure was brought about
and it is now perfectly healthy. C. L.
