THE DALLES,

TEE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP CF HQS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
"to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
3mown to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
U the importance of purchasing the
iirue and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs 13 manufactured
iy the California Fia Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pa
-ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fia Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
"which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
"Iwwels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
fEects, please remember the name of

A letter written from Dawson City
lias the following, showing tbut in spite
of the number of failures made known
to us every day, enthusiasm on the sub
ject still runs riot :
"A careful estimate of the number
of bods coming down the river places it
t 4000, carryinz about 18,000 people.
These boats, if tied together with a 40
tfoot rope, would make a continuous line
of boats over 50 miles long. It would
itate a Willamette valley steamboat,
-with fsMy tons at a load, and making
wo trips a week, one and a half years to
convey the grab they carry. - As each
ooat lands, the people . look and invol
untarily aek the question, "What will
these people do?" Every stream upon
which a discovery has been made within
BBventv-five miles of here baa been
taked. And the few new discoveries
which will be made will certainly be
jpoor consolation to the thousands of ex
pectant fortune-seekers. Disappoint
ment can be seen on the faces of hun
dreds of men ai they walk the ttreets.
Of TV. -
It is bard for them to realiza the fact
that although they labored hard for
months their troubles have just begun.
Not a few have already disposed of por
tions of their outfite and started on
down the river, while others only await
the return of the river steamers."
Notice to Delinquent Taxpayers.
The delinqent taxes of Wasco connty,
as shown on th6 rolls now in the hands
of the sheriff are $60,000, an amount al
most equal to the indebtedness of the
county. Every citizen will doubtless
admit that this state of affairs should
not exist, and that all taxes should be
collected. On account of hard times
in the past the county court Las shown
leniency to taxpayers, but that leniency
has reached the limit, and the court
cannot wait longer on delinquents to
make settlements. For this reason a
warrant has been attached to each de
linquent roll commanding the sheriff to
collect all taxes by seizure and sale of
property. With a bountiful crop now
in sight, there can no longer be any rea
sonable excuse for the non-payment of
taxes. The sheriff i9 bound by oath to
comply with the terms of the warrants
attached to the tax rolls for the collec
tion thereof, and has no option in the
matter. Delinquent taxpayers can save
the cost of seizure an 1 sale of property
by settling their taxes at once.

Sheriff and Tax Collector for Wasco
County. -Dated,

Thankful words written by Mrs. Ada
E. Hart, of Groton,-S. D. "Was taken
with a bad cold which eettled on my
lungs ; cough set in and finally termin
ated in Consumption. Four doctors
gave me up, saying I could live but a
short time. I gave myself up to my
Savior, determined if I could not stay
with my friends on earth, I would meet
my absent ones above. My husband
was advised to get Dr. King's New Dis
covery for Consumption, Coughs and
Colds. I gave it a trial, took in all eight
bottles. It has cured me, and thank
God I am saved and now a well and
healthy woman." Trial bottles free at

About one month ago my child, which
is fifteen months old, had an attack of
diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting. I
gave it such remedies as are usually
given in such cases, but aa nothing gave
relief, we sent for a pbyeician and it was
under his care for a week. At this time
the child had been sick for about ten
days and was having about twenty-five
operations of the bowels every twelve
hours, and we were convinced that un
less it soon obtained relief it would not
live. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy was recommended,
and I decided to try it. I soon noticed a
change for the better; by its continued
use a complete cure was- brought about
and it is now perfectly healthy. C. L.

years I have been almost a constant suf

rendering me unfit for my duty at this
hotel. About two years ago a traveling
salesman kindly gave me a small bottle
of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarhoea Remedy. Much to my sur

disease I would fortify myself against
the attack with a few doses of this val

very satisfactory and almost complete
relief from the affliction." For sale by
