TEE EXCELI3KCE OF SYEUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
-simplicity of the combination, but also
"to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
inown to the California Fig Svbup
3o. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
"true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured

assist ons in avoiding- the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pav
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fro Si-kup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
riven to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
-of the excellence of its remedy. It is

A CHANCE FOR
HAWAIIAN TROOPS
One Battalion of Infantry will be Or
ganized af Honolulu to Enter the
United States Service.
Sax Fbancisco, Aug. 3. General Mer
riam, commanding, the department of
California, has received the following
dispatch from Adjutan, -General Corbin:
"The president directs that if any of
the military forces of the Hawaiian
islands desire to become a part of your
volunteer army that you organize not to
exceed one battalion of infantry, nomi
nating the officers and causing the offi
cers and men to be mustered into the
service and have them report to Colonel
Barber for duty.":
The chamber of commerce ot this city

INHABITANTS
ARE STARVING
Terrible Condition of Affairs Reported
in Havana Sufferings of the Re-
concentrados Worse Than Ever.
Isew York, Ang. 4. A passenger who
reached Sagua from Havana says affaire
in the capital are growing worse. He
said : '
"It ia impossible to get beef at any
price, and horse flesh costs $1 per pound.
Beans cost 28 cents a pound and are very
bad at that. Egga cost 35 cents each
The supply of condensed milk is prac
tically exhausted, and the little left Is
sold for $2 a can, such as you buy here
for 10 cents. On an average ten to
twelve persons are found dead of starva
tion in the streets every day, and this
takes no account of the sores who daily
die of hunger in the houses.
"No worda can describe the horrors of
Los Foscos, at the foot of the Prado,
where reconcentrados are herded to
gether. I was told there were 4000 of
these miserable people in a place when
I came away, and they are dying by
hundreds, for of course nothing is being
done for their relief, as the government
has not enough food for its own soldiers,
Worse than this, officials beat and abuse
the reconcentrados shamefully."
About one month ago my child, which
is fifteen months old, had an attack ot
diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting. 1
gave it such remedies as are usually
given in such cases, but as nothing gave
relief, we sent for a physician and it was
under his care for a week. At this time
the child had been sick for about ten
days and was having about twenty-five
operations of the bowels every twelve
hours, and we were convinced that un
less it soon obtained relief it would not
live. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remdy was recommended,
and I decided to try it. I soon noticed a
change for the better; by its continued
use a complete cure was brought about
and it is now perfectly healthy. C. L.

The Best Remedy for Flui
Mr. John Mathias, a well known stock
dealer of Pulaski, Ky., says: "After
suffering for over a week with flux, and
my physician having failed ,to relieve
me, I was advised to try Chamberlain's
Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy,
and have the pleasure of stating that
the half of one bottle cured me." For
sale by Blakeley & Houghton.
The Rev. W. B. Costley, of Stock
bridge, Ga., while attending to bis pas
toral duties at Ellenwood, that state,
was attacked by cholera morbus. He
says: "By chance I happened to get
hold of a bottle of Chambeila'n's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, and I
think it was the means of saving my
life. It relieved me at once." For sale

E. C. Blanks, of Lewisville, Texas,

"Juist as
Q
as Scott's and we sell it much
cheaper," is a statement sometimes
made by the druegfist when Scott's
Emulsion is called for , This shows
that the druggists themselves regard
of Cod-Liver Oil with Hypophos
phites of Lime and Soda as the
standard, and the purchaser who
desires to procure the standard "
because he knows it has been of
untold benefit, should not for one
instant think of taking the risk of
using some untried prepa
ration. The substitution
of something said to be
"just as good" for & stand
ard preparation twenty
five years on the market,
should not be permitted by
the intelligent purchaser.
Be sure you get SCOTT'S Emulsion. See
that the man and fish are on the wrapper
50c and $1.00, all druggists. ..
