V. Creightou, the traveling freight agent of the Northern Pacific, is very much pleased with the business outlook in the Inland Emprial, Bays the Tele gram. He has just returned from a swing around the circle in Eastern Ore gon and Washington, and finds evidence of prosperity on every hand. The attraction at Bonneville park for next Sunday, July 31st, will be the en gagement of DeBoe, the aerial wonder, late from Hammerstein's, Olympic and Koster & Bial'e, New York City, with other attractions. DeBoe's perform ances are beyond belief, except to eye witneeees. Fare only 50 cents for round trip from Dalles. Large crowds of excursionists are tak ing advantage of the low Sunday excur sions via the O. R. & N. to Hood River, Cascade Locks and Bonneville. At St. Mary's hospital in Walla Wa ll, last week, Dr. N. G. Ballock pf formed a remarkable surgical operatic n Miss Carrie Stone, of Athena, who h for some time been suffering from eto- -ach trouble, her death being but a qr a tion of a short time, was taken to the hospital to be operated on as a laet re sort. Dr. Ballock and his assistant re moved from her stomach a large inaes of black hair, or a dermoid cyst growth. It measured 32 inches in length, and 5 inches in diameter, and weighed six ponnds. Miss stone has a good chance of recovery. Last night Ward Lewis, the eight-year-old eon of Mrs. Mary J. Lewis, of Kingsley, died of scarlet fever. The little fellow has been sick for some time and his death was not unexpected. He was an intelligent little boy anl his death will be a sad blow to his widowed mother. Quite a number of children in the Kingsley vicinity are down with the same disease and in a number of cases it has proven fatal. Dr. Logan was called yesterday afternoon to attend the little sufferer, but he arrived too late to ren der any assistance. A POPULAR EXCURSION. A careful census taken from amongst local business men, citizens and resi dent farmers of the adjacent country, shows that the Dalies people will one and all take advantage of the low rate of $2.00 for the trip to Portland and return on Wednesday next. To avoid any inconvenience to intend ing excursionists, arrangements have been made with the O. R. & N. officials, whereby tickets for the excursion will be placed on sale Tuesday, August 2d, at the O. R. & N. ticket office.
