Kelly, brother of Tom Kelly, of this city, and proprietor of the Hotel .State, in Walla Walla, left for his home in that city last night, after having been visiting with his brother for sever al days. Rev. Gray leaves on the Dixon this morning for Portland, where he will re main until Sunday. He will preach in St. James Lutheran church In Portland Sunday morning, and will return in time to hold services here in the even- ' ing. These will be the last services held in the Lutheran church ior some time, as Rev. tiray intends taking a month's vacation. A Card. Chronicle Office. Wer Commissioners Meeting. A regular meeting of the water com missioners waa held at the recorder's office July 1st, 1898, with the following members present: Jos. T. Peters, M. Randall, S. Bolton, E. B. Dufur, E. C. Phirman and J. B. CrosseD. Minutea of the previous meeting wore read and approved. The superintend ent of The Dallea Laundry appeared be fore the commission and made applica tion for a reduction of water rent for house use. On motion it wne ordered that the amount registered by the meter to include water for house nse. T. A. Hudson also appeared before the commission and made application for a new four inch water main to be laid down the alley back of bis property. The present two inch pipe being inade quate. On motion the superintendent was instructed to lay said pipe. The committee heretofore appointed to appraise the land T. A. Hudson made application to purchase, recommended that same be sold to T. A. Hudson for $100. Daniel Daffron also appeared and made application for the commission to lay a two-inch main from the main on Ninth street to his property. On mo tion the chairman appointed E. C. On Saturday, "Doc" Haekina, who is 24 years old, while training a race mare near bia home on upper Burnt river, was thrown with great force by the ani mal coming suddenly to a stop. The young man struck squarely on his face and received shocking injuries. Ac companied by bia mother and brother. the sufferer waa brought in a hack the fifty miles to Baker City and placed in St. Elizabeth's hospital, where Dr. E. B, McDaniel reduced a 'bad fracture ot bis nose and took stitches in his chin in order to get it into proper shape.
