TEE EXCELLENXE OF SYBCP CF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by fceientifiq processes
known to the California Fiq Svkup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
aill the importance of purchasing- the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Svrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other pp.
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fio Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
.far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
"bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. I n order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the' name of
the Company

ANOTHER OCEAN GREYHOUND
ICorpedo-ttoot Fox Saocossfully Lauched
at Portland.
"Fully three thousand people witnessed
the launching of the torpedo-boat Fox
in Portland Menday afternoon. They
Btood on the Madison street bridge, on
East Water street, and they swarmed in
rnall boats on the river. They were
Tiat.riotic mi l tnthasiastic in the ex
treme, and when the trim little craft
lid down the ways with a silken
emoothnesa and nestled in the river, as
if she recojnizad that it was that ele
ment for which she was built, they
cheered until they had no voices to cheer
longer. . .
The launching went off as smoothly as
the capture of Cervera'e fleet. From
the time when little Vera Patterson,
after three mighty efforts, succeeded in
breaking the big bottle of champagne
over her bow till she rested serenely
alongside her sister 6hip at the wharf,
there was not the slightest break in the
proceedings.
She struck the water gently, and sat
tip as gracefully as a yacht, as she made
ber way past the myriad of small boats
which surrounded her stern. She was
brilliantly decorated with her signal
locker, and the gay flags and bunting on
tbe boats on the river, nnder the blue
eky, made a picture that will not soon
be forgotten. Those who went down on
ber cheered as she went down, and those
on the wharf and river cheered back,
while tbe whistle on tbe Davis, which
had been put under steam for the first
time, shrieked and howled as if they
bad gone mad. ,
It was a very happy and patriotic
crowd, and no more fitting nor happy
time could here po?sibl been chosen for
the launching of a boat for the United
States navy. Oregonian.
FOUTBALL.
There have been six games of football
between the State University" of Cali
fornia and Standford ; Stanford h&B
won three games and the other three
games have resulted in ties. In all
other intercollegiate contests Berkeley
takes the lead especially in musical
matters. Stanford has tried year after
year to get a glee clab that would com
pare tavorably with the one from Berke
ley but Bhe has never succeeded. The
concerts given by the Berkeley boys are
on a par with the concerts civen tv
eastern university musical clube, and
no one should fail to hear the concert
given by the Berkeley students tonight.

A startling incident of which Mr. John
Oliver of Philadelphia, was the subject
is narrated by him as follows : I was in
a most dreadful ..condition. My skin
was almost yellow, eyes sunken, tongue
coated, pain continually in back and
sides, uo appetite gradually growing j
weaker day by day. Three, physicians i
had given me up. Fortunately, a friend
advised trying 'Electric. Bitters,' and to
my great joy and surprise, the first bot
tle made a decided improvement I con
tinued their use for three weeks, and am
now a well man. I know they saved
my lite and robbed the grave of another
victim." No one should fail totrytheni.
