today a bill was passed authorizing the
Lewiston & Concord Bridge Company to
construct and maintain a bride across
the Snake river between Idaho and
Washington.
The senate amendment to tho agiicul-
tural appropriation bill was disagreed
to and the bill was ordered sent to con
ference. Miller of Ohio, Republican, chairman
of the election committe, then called up
the contested casj of Aldrich va. Plow
man, from the fourth district of Alabama.

Washington, Feb. 8. Cannon of
Utah, today ofl'ered a resolution to noti
fy Spain that if Spain fails to recognize
the independence of Cuba on or before
the fourth of March next, the United
States, on that date will recognize thu
belligerency of the Cuban patriots, and
will within 90 days thereafter assert the
independence of Cuba.

today offered as an amendment to the
diplomatic and consular appropriation
bill, the Morgan resolution for recogni
tion of thu belligerency of Cuba,
Frank Sherwood was down town to
day, thu first time since he had his tus
sle with cholera morbus. He says he
drove miles after. he wuetukeu sick, and
never came so near dving in his life.
After this when he goes out In the coun
