Kiks Greeting.
To Those to Whom This Greeting May
Come:
Prof. McEweu has, daring the week
juet past, given a series of hypnotic en
tertainments in The Dalles. His ap
pearance has been the cause of large at
tendances, and those who witnessed his
exhibitions express themselves as satis
fied that Prof. McEwen is an acknowl
edged master in the art to which he has
given much study and attention.
On last Saturday night Prof. McEwen,
who is a member of the Salem lodge of
Elks, was invited to attend the regular
meeting of Cascade Lodge in The'Dalles,
and while tin re gave an informal enter
tainment before the members, which
was surprising to a remarkable decree.
His feats of legardemain and mind
reading interested and edified those
present till all were willing to declare
that as an artist tie is surpassed by none.
His entertainment was so remarkable
" that it wrb the concensus of opinion of
the Elks present tbat a testimonial
-should be prepared and presented to
Bro. McEwen expressing to him their
pleasure and obligation for so kindly
contributing to the enjoyment of the
evening, and to that intent these words
are written. In their acquaintance with
Bro. McEwen the Elks of Cascade Lodge
bave found him 'a gentleman in every
respect, honest in his statements and
Mncerc in his devotion to what is un
doubtedly a marvelous problem of
science.
This statement is a spontaneous ex
prcEsion t n the part of Cascade Lodge,
and is done without Bro. McEwen's
knowledge or consent. Ho has made a
pleasant impression on those whom he
has met, and the Eiks do not believe
they are hypnotised when they make
this voluntary testimonial. Whenever
Bro. McEwen returns to Tbe Dalles he
may be assured of a hearty reception by
the Elks of this city.
By order of Cascade Lodge, B. P. O. E
Judd S. Fish, Exalted Ruler.
Feed W. Wilson, Secretary.

That a kind word put out at interest
brings back an enormous percentage
of love and appreciation?
' That though a loving thought may
not seem to be appreciated, it has yet
made vou better and braver because of
it?
That the little acts of kindness and
thought.fulness day by day are really
greater than one immense act of good

Tbat to be always polite to the people
at home is not only more ladylike, but
more refined than having "company

That to judge anybody by his per
