The splendid family tourist sleepers of
the Great Northern are now running
daily between Portland and -Spokane,
on the Spokane flyer via O. R. & N.
These cars differ .from the ordinary
tourists sleepers, being built on the
same plan ae regular sleepers but up
holstered in leather instead of plush.

Mrs. W. R. Bernard, the teacher of
embroidery, will be at the home of Mrs.
H. S. Wilton tomorrow afternoon, where
the ladies who wished to meet her may
call upon her, .
. A. Y. Marsh and Geo. Jolea will have
a turkey shoot on the beach on Novem
ber 24th and 25th (Thanksgiving day).
There will also be trap and pigeon
shooting at the same time and place.

Rev. Iliff, who is in this city in the
interest of the Portland hospital, occu
pied the pulpit of the Methodist church 1
yesterday. This was a great treat to
those who were fortunate enough to hear
him, aa Dr. Iliff is a very fine speaker.
The ladiea of the-Lutheran church de
sire to return their thanks to the good
people of The Dalles who eo liberally
patronized their bazaar and assisted bo
materially in making it a grand success.
The net receipts at the bazaar were $425,
for which each' and every patron has
425 separate and distinct thanks.
Three little runaway boys from Mer
lin, aged 7, 9 and 11 years, were picked
up by the marshal on the streets of
Grant's Pass, in Josephine county, last
week. Later the boys were turned
loose, and were finally overtaken by
their father near Hayes. The young
sters were good walkers, as it is seven
teen miles from Grant's Pass to Hayes.
The foot race between Cameron and
Wheat, which is to come off Wednesday
at Wasco, was reported to have been run
Saturday. This we understand is a mis
take, that the parties got together and
tried to get the race pulled off, but alter
scoring several times, no arrangements
could be made, and the parties put up
$150 more, each, on the race which will
come of Wednesday, aa advertised.
Tracklaying on the Goble road waa
completed Thursday to a point a quar
ter of a mile beyond Eldridge's, about
nineteen miles from Astoria, and the
force will now go back on the line, sur
facing and ballasting, so the material
ane with similar cars running to and
rom St. Paul without change. nov3-6
Iuvitations are being issued for the"
grand re-opening of the Commercial
club rooms Saturday evening. The
rooms have been most beautifully and
artistically re-furnished, and the occa
sion next Saturday ia in the nature of
house warming, a gathering of the old
members of the club household in their1
newly-furnished home. It promises t
be the swell event of the season, an
