" E. O. McCoy and wife went to Port
land on the local this morning.
Mr. W. C. Allaway went to Portland
on the Spokane local tbia morning.
Mrs. Cbas. Johnson and little daugh
ter, have returned from a visit with rela-
ives in Goldendale.
Peter Stadelman. of The Dalles Com
mission Company, left for Hood River
1 on the Regulator this morning.
Henry Bolton, who has been visiting
relatives in this vicinity for some time,
returned to Portland this morning.
Mrs. Truman Butler left yesterday for
her home in Lecomoton, Kansas, where
she will vieit relatives for some time.
Bill Gil more of Rockland returned
from Baker City yesterday. He reports
times lively in that town at present.
Alex. Mackintosh, one of Prineville's
sheep kings, who has been In the city
for several days, left for his home
Wednesday.
Miss Agnes Lane, who has been visit
ing relatives in the city for some time,
left on the overland last night for her
borne in Meacham.
Alias Marv Cox of Kincsley was a pas
senger on the Regulator this morning.
She goes to Oregon City to epend a few
weeks visitmg friends.
Gns Bonn and William Fredden left
for Sherman countv today. They ao as
representatives of Mays & Urowe and
Rorden it Co. respectively.
Miss Bottorff has been con6ned to her
room for several days with neuralgia.
Todsy she is so far recovered as to be
able to resume her duties in the Elite
niiHinery parlors.
Hon. A. S. Bennett returned this
morning from Moro, where he has been
attending court. Mr. Bennett said the
term of court for Sherman countv was
exceptionally short this fall, there being
no cases of very great importance.
Death or William Masters.
William Masters, a pioneer of 1S52,
died at his home in Portland Tuesday
evening from a complication of diseases
incident to his advanced age. He was
S3 years old. Mr. Masters had been ill
for a year, and his death was not a sur
prise. He was one of the best known
men in 'Portland, having lived there
since 1852. He was an early county
treasurer, and at the time of his death
was the oldest member of Taylor street
church. A wife and three sons survive
him. The latter are W. Y. Masters, of
the Pacific Coast Abstract Company, S.
L. Masters of North Yakima, and F. K.
Masters of this city.
The funeral was held from Taylor
street church this afternoon at 2
o'clock.

Dalies City, made on the 19th day of
September, 1897, anil entered of record
in the records of Dalles City on the 2Cth
day of September, 1897, notice is hereby
given that the following cross walks
have been declared dangerous by said
council on said 19th day of September,
1897, and the Paid council will proceed
to make the improvements as herein
after stated, on said streets, or parts of
streets declared dangerous, after fourteen
days after the first publication of this
notice, to-wit, September 30th, 1897,
and the costs of such improvements of
all such cross walks, and of each of
them, will be charged and levied upon
the property abutting, as by charter
provided.
The cross walks declared dangerous
and about to be built are as follows, to
wn :
1. To build a cross walk on the past
side of Fedeial street, across Second
street.
2. To build a cross walk across Jef
ferson Btreet on the north side of Second
street.
3. To build a cross walk across Court
street on the north side of Second street.
4. To build a cross walk across Wash
ington Etreet on the south side ot Fourth
street.
5. To build a cross walk across Jef
ferson street on the south side ot Second
street.
6. To build a cross walk across
Laughlin street on the north side of
second street.
7. -To build a cross walk across Second
street oh the east side of Court street.
8. To build a cross walk across Third
street on the east side of Federal street.
All of said cross walks will be built
and constructed in accordance with the
provisions of the charter and ordinances
of Dalles Citv.
