Albert Allen of Boyd is in the city to
day, making preparations to leave' to

John H. Cradlebaugh left for Baker
City last night, where he goes to look
after his mining interests in that vi
... cinity. He will be absent about three
weeks.
Mrs. Edward Cookingham of Portland
and Mrs. Pearsell of Seattle, who have
been visiting the Misses Lang, left for
taeir respective homes on the delayed
train today.
James Arma worthy, editor of the
Wasco News, made a flying trip to our
city yesterday. He reports everything
rushing in that place since the comple
tion of the road.
Mrs. Briggs, who went to Salem Satur
day to deliver an address before the De
gree of Honor in that city, and who is
at present spending a few days in Port
land, returns on this evening's train.
Mr. William Donaldson, who has been
-engaged in tbe sheep business in Crook
-county during the paet year, went
through to Portland yesterday. He
.states that feed is abundant in that sec
tion, and that stock of all kinds is look
ing well and will be iu excellent shape
to go through the winter.
In this city, Oct. 5th, to Mr. and Mrs.
M. E. Montgomery, a son.
Uudersby Items.
The farmers are busy hauling wheat
to The Dalles. Digging potatoes is also
the order of the day, while many are
baling hay. Farmers are anxious for
rain, so they can commence plowing.
The Endersby school is prospering,
'With Miss Anna Thompson as teacher.
Our blacksmith is very busy at pres
ent. Bert Campbell has returned, and is in
the mountains trapping bears and ether
wild animals.
Ben Southwell in moving to his borne
farm put five sticks of giant powder in
the stove for safe keeping and then set
the stove up. His wife, not seeing the
powder, built a fire. Shortly after she
heard a noise, which frightened her so
that she ran out ot the house. An ex
plosion followed, blowing the stove all
to pieces, and landing the fragments
through the window all over the yard.
The window sash was torn entirely out,
nd the stove-pipe was forced upwards.
No one was hurt; but Mr. Southwell
will no doubt have to buy a new stove.

have been declared dangerous bv said
council on said 19ch day of September,
1897, and the paid council will proceed
to make the improvements as herein
after stated, on said Ptreete, or parts of
streets declared rtangeroiip, after fourteen
days after the first publication of this
notice, to-wit. September JJUtli, 189.
and the costs of such improvements of
all such cross walks, and of each of
them, will be charged and levied upon
the property abutting, as by charter
provided. .
The cross walks declared dangerous
and about to be bnilt are as follows, to-
wit :

side of Fedeial street, across Second
street.
2. To bnild a cross walk across Jef
ferson street on the north side of Second
street.
3. To build a cross walk across Court

rigni-of-way of the said Oregon Railroad and
Navigation Company, which point is 1175 feet
north and 290 feet east of the southeast corner of

grees and 34 minutes east, 815 feet to a point on
the south boundary of the snid right-of-wav ;
thence on a curve to the left with and along the
said boundary of said 1 igh t-of-way in a westerly
course to the plane of beginning, containing
