'The Foot
of a Fly"
says an eminent English doctor, "will
carry enough poison to'infect a house
hold." In summer-time, more espec
ially, disease germs fill the air, multi
tudes are infected, fall ill, die ; multi
tudes escape. These messengers of
mischief do not exist for millions. Why
not? Because they are healthy and strong
protected as a crocodile is against gun
shot. It is the weak, the wasted, the
thin-blooded who fall ; those who
have no resistive power so that a sudden
cough or cold develops into graver
disease. We hear of catching disease!
Why not catch health ? We can do it
by always maintaining our healthy
weight.
Sctftti Smutatcru
of Cod-liver Oil, is condensed nourish
ment; food for the building up of the
system to resist the attacks of disease.
It vhould be taken in reasonable doses
all summer long by all those whose
weight is befow the standard of health.

b A Diamond Wedding:.
An event at all times sufficiently rare
to create interest, and more especially
in this country,"has takin place in the:
small village of Gloignes, in the depart
ment of the Oise, says a Paris corre
spondent. "An old couple, M. and Mme.
Andry, amid the rejoicings of the whole
parish, celebrated recently their dia
mond wedding. The husband first saw
the light in 1810, and his wife was born
five years later. The cure who offici
ated on the occasion of the golden wed
ding of this happy old pair presided
again. M. Andry is still a hale and
hearty old man, and hopefully looks
forward to still some years of married
life, although bis spouse is somewhat
feeble, and required the stalwart arm
of a grandson, who is a non-commis
sioned officer, to lean on.

The Number of Incinerations Is Growing
8teadllT from Tear to Tear.
The Advocates in this country of cremating-
dead bodies will be somewhat
encouraged by- the reports that come
from Paris of the number of incinera
tions that took place there during the
first four months of 1895, says the New
York World. The number at incinera
tions that occur, either in accordance
with a previous request of the person
whose body is disposed of or at the
instance of the representatives, in
creases every year with great regu
larity, though not rapidly. According
to the statistics published by the pre
fect of police, the number of crema
tions that. took place at the Pere la
Chaise cemetery from August, 1889, to
the end of April, 1895, were as follows;
1889, 49; 1390; 121; 1891, 134; 1892,
159; 1S93, 189; 1894, 21C, and 1895 (four
months), 75.
The furnace would consequently
often be idle were it not for the remains
from the hospitals, which amount to
from 2,000 to 2,500 bodies per annum.
The apparatus employed is that of
MM. Toisoul and Fradet and works by
means cf gas with a recuperator. In
cinerations arc accomplished in an hour
or, at most, an hour and a quarter, and
the cost of the combustible never ex
ceeds three francs per operation.
. Another apparatus, invented by M.
Fichet. has recently been inaugurated.
The difference between the two inven
tions lies chiefly in the application of
oxide of carbon. In the contrivauce
devised by M. Fichet the body is con
. sumed by hot air alone and does not
come into contact with gases. Accord
ing" to this method, incineration takes
place a little more rapidly than in the
Toisoul furnace, but the expense is
greater by nearly a quarter as much.
" The Danish Prince.
The Danish prince who married one
of Queen Victoria's granddaughters is
more French and Irish than Danish,
so far as blood goes. The Irish strain
is that of the famous O'Clarys, of Tyr
connell. A hundred years or so ago,
so the story runs, a member of this
family nntassed wealth- in Marseilles,
and, tlyinsr, left his two daughters hand
somrc dowries. These were the two
sisters Clary, one of whom afterwards
ijccaine .Joseph Bonaparte's wife, queen
of Naples. The other married Berna
dotte. the toldier of Napoleon who be
came Charles XIV.. king of Sweden.

grandson. Sheriff's Sale.
