Boom of the Theater Bat. -
Alfred Bouvier, the manager of the
Baldwin theater, San Francisco, thinks
he has solved the feminine headgear
problem and that'diplomacy in such di
lemmas as his will prove better than
force. The plan he has devised for per
suading the ladies' to remove their hats
consists of the following protest, which,
engraved on a card, will be presented on
' a silver salver to the woman who wears
a high hat to the play in the future:
"The management; sincerely '.regrets
any personal annoyance this may cause
you, but must respectfully request that
you remove yonr hat, as complaints
have been lodged that it interferes with
the 'comfort and enjoyment to which
. those seated back of you are entitled.
(Signed) The Baldwin, San Francisco."

Big Failure In Albany.
M.
The Albany Woolen Mills have been
cruehed by indebtedness. A dispatch
says: A receiver was appointed for the
Albany Woolen Mills yesterday, upon
complaint in Judge Hewitt's court. The
plaintiff '8 are J. M. Moyer L. D. Cole,
E. D- Moyer and Mrs. F. F. Craft, the
owners of ninety-six shares of the stock
in the Albany Woolen Mills Co., of the
value of of $48,000, and constitute the
whole board of directors. The indebted
ness of the mill is given at $120,000, and
the value of the entire property, em
bracing the goods, notes, accounts, etc.,
at $140,000.
The complaint states that, owing to
the scarcity of money and the great de
preciation in the market value of proper
ties, the defendant has not been able to
secure funds to meet the indebtedness of
the company , that a large amount of
goods is in process of , manufacture,
therefore the appointment of a receiver
of the property is asked for. L. Finn
was appointed receiver.
The present action was precipitated
by the attachment of the property of J.
M. Moyer & Co., of Portland, for $8,000
by the Eastern firm of Loewenstein &
Co. of Chicago. '.'
