    CANCER CURED
.. and a .
LIFE SAVED
By the Persistent Use of
Ayer's Sarsaparilla
"I was troubled for years with a
sore on my knee, which several
physicians, who treated me, called a.
cancer, assuring ' me that nothing
could he done to save my life. As
a last resort, I was induced to try
Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and, after tak
ing a number of bottles, the sore
began' to disappear and my general
health improve. I persisted in this
treatment, until the sore was en
tirely healed. Since then, I use
Ayer's Sarsaparilla occasionally as
a tonic and blood-purifier, and, in
deed, it seems as though I could not
keep house without it." Mrs. S. A.

An Original Klection Bet.
There is apparently no end to the
"catch bets" devised by the wary for
the benefit of the unwary. The latest
in that line to reach Helena, says tbe
Independent, was one that W. E.' Phil
lips had, and one that came near finding
takers of great odds.
"I will bet," said Mr. Phillips, "$25
that I can name twenty-five states that
McKiney will carry, and then I will bet
$250 that we will carry half the re
mainder."
Thomas Craban is an ardent silver
man and one who doesn't mind taking
in a good thing when it comes his way,
either. He heard the offer, and had his
money np to take the. first part of it
right away, and was going down for
some more when a friend told him what
be was running up against, and he
withdrew.
Of course the man. who makes both
wegers has more solicitude for the larger
bet. He will name nearly all Bryan
states in tbe first twenty-five, expecting
to lose some of them, and it is a "cinch"
that out of those remaining McKinley
will carry half. 1
The wager is ingenious, though, and
the opinion of people who do not believe
it is wrong to gamble is that the man
who invented it is entitled to what he
can make for his originality. .

A. Bowery Girl," th famous Melo-
' drama.
A goodly share of mirth and merri
ment, a fair share of pathos and senti
ment, a necessary supply of special
scenery, and a quantity of bright, catchy
songs and specialties constitute the com
ponent parts of tbe very popular play of
"A Bowery Girl," the property of Mr.
Harry Williams, and tbe creation of
Miss Ada Lee Bascom, tbe brilliant
authoress. No play of late years has at
tracted the favorable attention of press
and public alike that" this has. Tbe
production certainly deserves it, if one.
may judge from the universal endorse
ment it is receiving. It is said to be of
a distinct and separate class of melo
drama to any that has been, prod need-in
years. '. It certainly must possess con
siderable more than the usual amount
of merit to warrant the. success and at
tention it is meeting with. Chicago,
Boston, Philadelphia, and in fact all the
large cities have given their approve
ment to it, whilst New York city, which
would naturally be supposed to be suffi
ciently familiar with the scenes and. in
cidents of the play and the types of
character predominating in it to afford
some excuse for lack of enthusiasm, re
ceived the play in . its. entirety with ex
treme liberality. -' It will.be seen in this
city at Vogt opera bouse Wednesday,
Sept. 30th. .

A Free SIlTer Fraud.
The free coinage press has for several
months past been publishing an article
said to have been taken from the Lon
don Financial News of March 10, in
which the prediction was made that if
the United States adopted free silver
Great Britain would lose all her trade
with South America, India, China and
Japan. The pretended quotation also
declared that this trade which Great
Britain would lose would all go to the
United States.
In its issue of Aug. 13 The Financial
News-pronounces the alleged extract to
be a forgery and declares positively that
nothing of the kind was ever printed
in its columns. An examination of a file
of the paper shows that its statement is
true.
Will the silverite newspapers which
have been publishing this fake argu
ment for free coinage please explain to
their readers that they were- misled by
some unscrupulous forger? ,--
Property and Industry.
Property is the fruit of labor. Prop
erty is desirable, is a positive good in
the world. That some should be rich
shows that others may become rich, and
hence is encouragement to industry and
enterprise. Let no man who is homeless
pull down the house of another, but let
him work diligently and build one for
himself,, thus, by example, assuring that
his own shall be safe from violenoe
when it is built. Abraham Lincoln.

, Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoys the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed on exhibit at
the world's fair, Chicago. - Manufact
urers of other, sarsaparillas sought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they were all turned away
under the application of the rule for
bidding tbe entry of patent medicines
and nostrums." The decision ' of the
world's fair authorities in tavor of Ayer's

"Ayer's Sarsaparilla Is not a patent
