    TURNING GRAY
AITS THREATENED
WITH BALDNESS
The Danger is Averted by Using
AVER'S
HAIR
VIGOR
"Nearly forty years ago, after
some weeks of sicknefis. my hair
turned gray and began falling out
so rapidly that I was threatened
with immediate baldness. Hearing
Ayer's Hair Vigor highly spoken of,
I commenced using this prepara-
tion, and was so well satisfied with
the result that I have never tried
any other kind of dressing. It stop
ped the hair from falling out, stimu
lated a new growth of hair, and kept
the scalp free from dandruff. Only
an occasional application is now
needed to keep my hair of good,
natural color. I never hesitate to
recommend any of Ayer's medicines
to my friends." Mrs. II. M. H aight,

Reduction in Railroad Fares.
As there will be numerous requests
for reduced rates on account of political
meetings daring the eomlng contest, it
has been decided that in order to treat
all parties alike, a on fare rate will be
made by the O. R. & 3. Co. tor various
meetings of this character.
This of course is intended only for oc
caeions where there is sufficient number
to justify a redaction in rates. This is
done so that there wil' be no partiality

An Oakland bootblack deserves si ectal
mention as an honest man who would
not deceive his patrons. When he first
went into business, sis years ago, he put
up the sign : "Joe Garibaldi, boot black.
Has two small children." Each suc
ceeding year found him deserving of
more sympathy, for he kept amending
the sign until it read eight small chil
dren. A few days ago Joe's bootblack stand
was locked up for a whole day, and the
next morning he confided to the butch
er's boy that his baby had died. His
first work was to amend the sign so that
it might not mislead the public, and it
read: ''Joe Garibaldi, bootblack. Has
seven small children." Then, so as to
avoid being placed in a false position be
fore the public, he added with his finger
and shoe blacking, "One he die."
