the debtor can save 47 cents on every

certainly has a better scheme than the

Keep house without it." Mrs. S. A.
FlKLttS, li'oin!icld, la.
. New York Sun.
Stop bothering your bead about the
figures 16 to 1 ; leave the gold standard
out of the question, for there is no di
rect issue upon it, and consider the real
issue, silver.
A lump of silver of a certain size, 37IJ4'
grains in weight, is today worth 53 cents.
The Bryan proposition is that the gov
ernment shall stamp u a dollar. That
would be fiat money-making of tbe same
sort as the government setting its print
ing presses to work and turning out
without limit dollars of paper.
It is fiat dishonesty. It is pregnant
with trouble for every man, laborer or
capitalist, who lives by industry, and it
would leave to the United States the
hurt of lasting mistrust in the mind of
every industrial investor and leader,
American and foreign.

A. Martyr Turned Down.
New York Mitil and Express.
Ex-President St. John, of the Mer
cantile National bank, is a wiser if not a
sadder man than when he resigned his
position in preference to his free-silver
convictions and hastened to Chicago to
become a national figure. Every plat
form Riietrestion he made to the men
who had been patting him on the back
was turned down unmercifully.

New York World, Dem.
Not a single Demosratic newspaper of
consequence in New York, New Eng

700 German papers that discuss politics,
only 31 approve the platform. There

A Mexican Object-Lesson.
Buffalo Uxpress.
An object-lesson on the silver ques
tion was furnished by a national bank
in New York, which offered $10,000 in
Mexican silver for $4600 in United States
money. Under free coinage, our money
would be treated in international trans
actions as Mexico's now is.

Tbe Wage-Earner Deluded.
New York Tribune.
Let not the wage-earner delude him
self into tbe belief that it would be tbe
great fortunes which would lose most
from a 53-cent dollar. He himself would
be the chief sufferer.' He would buy less
with his income, he would get cheap
money back for the good money he put
in the bank; his widow would get only
53 cents for every dollar he meant her to
have from bis life insurance. Perhaps
bis wages ultimately would go up to
some extent, but his expenses would go
up more, and tbe dollar he had already
laid by would go down.

taxed medical skill, but it's prevention
has been very easy by an occasional use
of Simmons Regulator. It keeps the
