We are informed that the frosts of

will cause late ripening. ,
Much enterprise has been shown this
-spring in Betting out fruit trees, and we
nave it estimated that Irom twenty-nve
f.n mtv IhnncftnH fruit, trpun rif vnrmna
-kinds have been set out in the upper and
lower valley this spring, making now
Jiot If es than 150,000 tree?, a large num
ber of which are apple trees. In talk
ing of this matter with a conservative
but enthusiastic resident of the upper
valley, we formed a rough estimate, and
here is the result. About 400 car loads
of apples will be shipped from Hood
River station during the fall of 1900 if
the prospect remains unchanged, or put
ting it in another way it will take
eixteen trains to haul the .surplus of
apples alone. Still again about or more
than 400,000 boxes will be required to
bold these apples, and at the low price
f 40 cents a box there will be returned
- to Hood River to the producers not less
than $160,000. We have not mentioned
- the prunes, plums and other fall and
winter fruit, which will be an unfailing
source to the industrious.
Then the far famed and beautiful
Hood River strawberry in no distant
day -will be sent bv the train load to the
Eastern market, bringing back the gold
and silver to the fortunate ones. .
There is a bright outlook for this
thriving town and not many years will
see all the land in this highly favored
alley under the -most thorough culti
vation, and the fruit raising will be
brought to almoBt perfection.

the old duck having abandoned the nest
after ber . fright, Mrs. B. furnished a

We may be a little late, but our old

has been down .there putting in a crop.

Electric Bitters.
Electric Bitters is a medicine suited
for any season, but perhaps more gen
erally needed, when the languid ex
hausted feeling prevails, when the liver
is torpid and sluggish and the need of a
tonic and alterative is felt. A prompt
use of this medicine has often averted
long and perhaps fatal bilious fevers.
No medicine - will . act more surely in
counteracting and freeing the system
from the malarial poison. Headache,
Indigestion, Constipation, Dizziness
