After Acute Bronchitis
CUBED BY USING
AVER'S
Cherry
Pectoral
. A PREACHER'S EXPERIENCE.
"Three months ago, I took a vio
lent cold which resulted in an attack
of acute bronchitis. I put myself
tinder medical treatment, and at the
end of two months was no better.
I found it very difficult to preach,
and concluded to try Ayer's Cherry
1
Pectoral. The first bottle gave me
great relief ; the second, which I am
now taking, has relieved me almost
entirely of all unpleasant symptoms,
and I feel sure that one or two bot-'
ties more will effect a permanent
cure. To all ministers suffering from
throat troubles, I recommend Ayer's
Cherry Pectoral." E. M. Brawley,

statement that the leading" political par
ties of Sherman county are the Repub

A Protest.
That custom makes law is a truism
that few will care to controvert, for it is
often more binding than a legal enact
ment. Our citizens are accustomed to
the location of Chinatown, as they are of
Whitechapel," and bear with the exist
ing conditions, but they will not see its
-extension to other quarters of the city
without a protest. A house is being
Tonstrncted back of the depot which it is
designed to use for a house of ill fame,
thus endangering by contamination the
social purity of another quarter of the
city. The Chronicle enters a protest
against this design and expects to be
backed by the sentiment of the commu
nity. The system of fines at present in
vogue, should be so enlarged in this in
stance that it will have a prohibitory ef
fect, confining the evil to its accustomed
bounds.
Concert Repeated.
Miss Gladys M. Jones and Miss Har
riet H. Stevens repeated their concert
last night at the Congregational church
to a large audience. The young ladies
a v
were this time unsupported by local
talent, but admirably sustained the task
before them. Their musical abilities
have been reviewed heretofore by Tns
Chronicle and it is not neceseary to re
peat4vhat was said in our issue of Sat
urday la&t. Both young ladies are cer
tainly artists of high degree, and give
rich promise of something wonderful
with the advance of years.

The ,managers of the Metropolitan

eight inches. The hull is built of Siemens-Martin
mild steel throughout to
board of trade requirements for passen
ger certificate. She is built in five com
partments. In the fore part of the ves
sel is a cabin for the accommodation of
the staff and for visitors proceeding- to
visit patipnt"? in the hospital ships in
Long Reach, Dartf ord, and is capable of
accommodating about 20 persons. In
the after part there is a cnbin fitted up
as a hospital, wit'h four berths two be
ing fixed and two portable and with all
the necessary requirements for carry
ing four recumbent patients. Both of
these cabins are heated with steam and
are provided with suitable skylights
and all the necessary fittings for a boat
of its class.
The machinery is fixed amidships and

the fore end of the vessel of sufficient

A HOLY TERROR.
Bat the Little Battenbargs Love Her All
the Same.
The ruler of Balmoral castle, accord
ing to the Strand Magazine, is not the
'queen, but the housekeeper, a Mrs.
Mussens, a typical personage of her
class, gowned always in rustling black
silk, lace-trimmed apron and white cap.
Stie and the queen are said to be excel
lent friends, and many a gossip have
they had together when affairs of state
have been laid aside.
Mrs. Mussens also stands high in the
favor of the little Battenbergs, who are
sure to seek her out as soon as they
have landed at the castle, for she fair
ly idolizes the little ones and keeps
many a treasure in her apartments with
which to regale them.
To the world at large Mrs. Mussens is
a holy terror. Her word is law, and she
enforces it at the point of the bayonet
or the broomstick. It is said that once
the queen wanted a certain maid to
whom she had taken a fancy detailed
to the care of her own room, but the
housekeeper remonstrated, telling her
majesty that it wtas quite out of order
and she really must not spoil the serv
ants by undue notice. The queen was
wisa enough not to insist, end "dear

While no physician or pharmacist can
scientiously warrant a cure, the J. C

Chicago 1893.
None But Ayer's at the World's Fair.
Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoye the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed on exhibit at
the world's fair, Chicago. Manufact
urers of other earsaparillas eought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they were all turned away
under the application of the rule for
bidding the entry of patent medicines

world's fair authorities in favor of Ayer's
Sarsaparilla was in effect as follows
"Ayer's- Sarsaparilla Is not a patent
medicine. It does not belong to the
list of nostrums. It is here on its

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages, and
that is Catarrh: Hall's Catarrh Cure is
the only positive cure known to the
medical fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease, requires a consti
tutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh
Cure is taken internally, acting directly
upon the blood and mucous surfaces of
the system, thereby destroying the foun
dation of the disease, and- giving the
patient strength by building up the con
stitution and assisting nature in doing
its work. The proprietors have so much
faith in its curative powers, that they
offer One Hundred Dollars for any case
that it fails to cure. Send for list of
testimonials. Address:
