PECTORAL
" Two years ago, I bad tbe grippe,
and it left me with a cough which gave
me no rest night or day. My family
physician prescribed for me, changing
the medicine as often as be found the
things I had taken were not helping
me, but, in spite of bis attendance, I got
no better. Finally, my husband, read
ing one day of a gentleman who bad
had the grippe and was' cured by taking
Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, procured, for
me, a bottle of tins medicine, and before
I had taken half of it, I was enred. I
have used the Pectoral for my children
and in my f:imily, whenever we have
needed it, and have found it a specific
for colds, coughs, and lung troubles."

t he A. P. A. Lecture.
The Baptist church was filled last
evening to hear what Rev. E. B. Sutton
of Seattle had to say on A. P. A. issues.
He was introduced by Rev. O. D. Taylor,
through whose courtesy the use of the
church was extended. Mr. Taylor dis
claimed to be an A. P. A., but believed
in the American feature of free speech,
' and having heard Rev. Sutton once de
liver a temperance lecture he felt sure
he would be entertained whether or not
agreed with the lecturer.
' Rev. Sutton first attempted to correct
some of the existing wrong impressions
prevailing in regard to the A. P. A.,
most prominent of which was tbe belief
that it was a proscription against the
religious belief of Catholics. Heciaimed
that on this point, as well as on all
others, the organization stood npon the
constitution of the United States, guar
anteeing religious liberty and its free
xercise, and made the statement that
if the A. P. A.'s of The Dalles discovered
that the rights of Catholics to worship
God in their own manner were being in
fringed upon they would be the first to
rise und demand the complete restora
tion of that right.
Referring to the attitude of the Catholic
church toward our public Echools, Rev.
Sutton quoted some published opinions
of leading Catholic papers in Chicago
and New York, and of priests and
vbiehops which seemed unfriendly to
them.
-' The leeturer read what is called the
platform of the A. P. A., commenting
npon them section by section, reciting
facts and figures in "support of those
principles. Hd was attentively followed
and frequently applauded by the audi
ence before him. A collection was taken
op at the close of the lecture. '
DeatU of Mrs. Francis Cox.
' Died at Kingsley, of typhoid fever,
after a lingering illness of six weeks,
Mrs. Francis Cox.
Mrs. Cox was bora in Missouri in 1347,
and was married to James W, Cox in
1864 and emigrated with her husband to
the Willamette valley in the same year,
and in 1874 they moved to their farm
near Kingsley, where they resided till
her death. ' She leaves a husband,
four daughters and two sons to mourn
her loss. The funeral services Fere con
ducted by Rev. Mr. Merrill of Dufur at
the residence, near Emgsley. . A large
concourse of people were present to
show their last kind evidence of esteem
as her remains were laid to rest in the
Kit. gsley cemetery. Tbe husband loses
a kind and gentle companion, the sons
and daughters a loving and affectionate
mother. A Fbiend.

various ailments of children said
"Whun my children have croup there is
only one patent medicine I ever use, and
tnat is Chamberlain's Co "h .Remedy.
It possesses some medica properties
that relieve the little suflerei D immedi
ately. It is, in my opinion, the beet
cough medicine in the market." If this
remedy is freely given as soon as the
croup cough appears it will prevent the
attack. It is also an ideal remedy for
whooping cough. There is no danger in
giving it to children, as it contains noth-
iug injurious. For sale by Blakeley &

In a recent editorial the Salem, Or.,

have we seen Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy tried and never without the
most satisfactory results. Whenever we
see a person afflicted with hoarseness,
with a dough or cold, we invariably ad
vise them to get Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy; and when they do, they never
regret it. It always does the work, and
does it well." For sale by Blakeley &
