    CANCER CURED
AND A
LIFE SAVED
v by the Persistent Use of
Ayer's Sarsaparilla
,"Iwas troubled for years with a
sore on my knee, which several
physicians, who treated me, called a
cancer, assuring me that nothing
could be done to save my life. As
a last resort, I was induced to try
Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and, after tak
ing a number of bottles, the sore
began to- disappear and my general
health improve. 1 persisted in this
treatment, until the sore was en
tirely healed. Since then, I use
Ayer's Sarsaparilla occasionally as
a tonic and blood-purifier, and, in
deed, it seems as though I could not
keep house without it." Mrs. S. A.

A PORTLAND TRAGEDY.
George Baxter Cat EMs Wife's Throat
and Tries to Sulcl.le.
A horrible tragedy wa9 enacted in
room 3C, on the third floor of the Win
ters block, northeast corner of East
Davis and Grand avenue, Portland, at 8
o'clock Thursday night. George Baxter
elaehed his wife's throat from ear to ear,
faia victim expiring in a few moments.
Soon thereafter Baxter cut hia own
throat from which he ia likely to recover.
The Baxters, with their little 4-year-old
daughter, Edna, came from Roslyn,
WaBh., on the 24th of January last. The
only witness to the murder was the little
girl, who in her childish way, related to
a Telegram reporter that she waa on the
bed in the room in which this episode
took place.
"I saw papa strike mamma in the
face," ehe said, "and the blood came
from mamma's nose, spattering it all
over the bed, the wall and tier clothes.
Then she fell down. I asked papa, 'Is
mamma dead?' and he eaid 'No.' fl
then kissed mamma's face and so did he,
and he began to cry. When the police
came, he said he wanted hia little girl,
but they would not let him have me.
But I'm eoing to my dear papa anyway.
I think All, the world of my mamma too."
And iu this disconnected strain, she
prattled away a quarter of an hour.
'While the child is remarkably bright in
-other respects, yet last night she waa in
capable of grasping the enormity of the
misfortune that bad befallen her.
The motive for the murder ia claimed
"by Baxter to be hia wife's fondness for
drink a habit she acquired a year or so
ago Baxter had long suspected her of
infidelity. Before that their married
life had been a very happy one, and
covered a period of almost eight years.
The night of the murder he found her in
the back room of a West Side saloon, so
drunk that she could scarcely stand.
He keenly felt the disgrace phe was
bringing upon him and their child, but
ehe was his wife and ht felt determined
to reform her ways, if possible. With
the assistance of a casual acquaintance,
Baxter managed to get his wife home.
While ascending the stairway leading to
their room he accused her of wrong-doing,
which, iu her drunken condition, she re
sented, and he called her a dirty liar.
The quarrel grew more intense after they
bad entered their apartment, and it
continued till Baxter, as he claims, be
came absolutely irresponsible for his
conduct.
Gurge Baxter ia a man 34 years old.
being very respectably connected in Port
land and elsewhere in the Northwest.
He has always been a hard-working man
and principally followed logging as an
occupation.
Superintendent Gardner, of the Boya'
& Girls' Aid Society, today made appli
cation to Judge Stephens for an order to
take charge of little Edna Baxter.

Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoys the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed on exhibit at
the world's fair, Chicago. . Manufact
urers of other sarsaparillas sought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they were all turned away
under the application of the rule for
bidding the entry of patent medicines
and nostrums. ' The decision of the
world's fair authorities in favor of Ayer's
Sarsaparilla was in effect as follows
"Ayer's Sarsaparilla Is not a patent
medicine. It does not belong to the
liet of nostrums. It is here on its
merits."

The . readers of this paper wiM be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in- all its stages, and
that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Cure is
the only positive cure known to the
medical fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease, requires a consti
tutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh
Cure is taken internally, acting directly
upon the blood and mucous' surfaces of
the system, thereby destroying the foun
datiou of the disease, and giving the
patient strength by building up the con
stitution and assisting nature in doing
its work. The proprietors have so much
faith in its curative powers, that they
offer One .Hundred Dollas for any case
that it fails to cure.. Send for list of

It is a big thing to say' but neverthe
less true, that a great multitude of peo
ple have crowned Simmons Liver Regu
lator, the "King of Liver Medicines."
There is nothing like it for Malaria,
Rheumatism, Chills and Ferrer, Consti
pation, Biliousness, Sick Headache, In
digeston and all troubles arising from a
sluggish or diseased liver. Simmons
Liver Regulator is the prevention and
cure for these ailments.
If there is any one thing that need
to be purified, it is politics, so the re
former says, and many agree thereto.
But blood tells, and as a blood purifier
and liver corrector Simmons Liver Reg
ulator is the best medicine. "I use it in
preference to anv other." Sa wrote Mr.
S. H. Hysell, of Middleport, Ohio. And
Dr. D. 8. RusBell, of Farmville, Va.,
writes, ''It fulfills all you promise for i.t."
