Pectoral
A PREACHER'S EXPERIENCE
"Three months ago, I took a vio
lent cold which resulted in an attack
of acute bronchitis. I put myst'lf
. under medical treatment, and at the
end of two months was' no better.
I found it very dillicult to preach,
and concluded to try Ayer's Cherry
Pectoral. The first bottle gave me
great relief ; the second, which I am
now taking, has relieved me almost
entirely of all unpleasant symptoms, "
and I feel sure that one or two bot
tles more will effect a permanent
cure. To all ministers suffering f rom
throat troubles, I recommend Ayer's
Cherry Pectoral." E. M. Brawley,

The men arrested for the robbery of
the eafe in Bolton & Co.'s store were all
turned loose, there being no 'evidence
found against them. Other parties are
suspicioned, but proof is lacking. The

at ten per cent, well secured ; .but un

Peter Kircheiner, who left herewith

Portland, returned Thursday with his
' bride. Mr. and Mrs. Kirchheiner have
gone to housekeeping in their -own
home, the fine residence purchased of
V7. D. Jones. Mr. Kirchheiner lias re

and is one of the foremoEt young men in
town, being proprietor of the large
blacksmith shop and wholesale imple

budding into womanhood, and was
greatly loved by her schoolmates and
many friends for her kind and gentle

and was noted for ber ability in Bong,
being leader in tho school choir. It is
sad for one just entering upon the full

A Christmas Wedding.
'" Among the several weddings which
have taken place in The Dalles this
winter, none were prettier, if such is
the word, than that'which occurred yes
terday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Parkins, in Thompson's Addition.
Promptly at 3 o'clock the contracting
parties, Mr. P. E. Horton and Mies
Mildred Parkins stood ' before -W." C.
Curtis, pastor of the Congregational
church, and were pronounced husband
and wife. The ceremony was simple
and impressive, and at the close the
happy pair were overwhelmed with the
congratulations of the friends who were
present. Later in the afternoon a wed
ding supper was Eerved, at which mirth
abounded and good wishes were made
again and again for the happiness of the
young couple who had agreed to travel
life's journey together. ';
Mr. Horton was formerly a resident
of Tho Dalle?, being in the employ of
the Western Union Telegraph Company.
He now holds a responsible position in

Philadelphia, Dec. 25. The street
railway trouble broke out afresh today
on the Girard-avenue line. The division
superintendent in sending out cars this
morning gave the preference to the new
men, and the old men 'finally started a
revolt. Obstructions were piled on the
tracks and a squad of mounted police
were called for. The scene of the trouble
was surrounded by a howling mob of
10,000, who, however, did not molest
the cars. Serious trouble was averted
by the company agreeing to put the old
men to work. The second and Third
street branch was also' practically tied
up through the efforts of the ex-strikers,
who found their places being filled by
new men.

A Pacific Attitude.
New York, Dec. 25. A special from
London says the English government
has hitherto refrained from adding a
single bhip to the Atlantic squadron. It
is understood there is no probability of
taking such a step for the present. Fur
thermore, Sir Julian Pauncefote," at
Washington, has not communicated with
the foreign office for some time past.
This may be taken as an indication of
the essentially passive and pacific atti
tude of Lord Salisbury's cabinet.
